Default What Throttle BOdy for my R

I have a b18CR motor with 98 spec stainless 4-1's 2.5 inch exhaust, intake.

I sold my 62mm stock throttle body and am looking at adding a 66mm/64mm bored Throttle body sold at my local performance shop

however i have seen spoon makes a 70mm/62mm throttle body. Which is best for my car do u think I don't wanna loose power by adding a huge skunk2 68mm unit!

the 66/64mm ones are bored late model b16a ones so they are maxed out bore size

64-66mm is about right. Forget about the Spoon TB-it's the stock 62mm at the plate.

yeh but the spoon is 70mm at the mouth so creating a venturi effect with such a big taper.

but the 64/66 only has a 2mm taper opposed to the spoon 8mm taper. I feel the spoon TB will yeild me more power and throttle response than the 64/66mm one. but what are your thoughts?

I think it's pretty much splitting hairs at this rate since the motor is stock.

It's not like you're going back to a T-body that is smaller than the originally unit. I would choose which fits the budget best....and in this case, it would probably be the 64/66 unit as the Spoon one is easily replicated by any competent machine shop or this guy....

http://www.maxbore.com

It is probably what I woulda done instead of selling the OEM one unless there was something wrong with it to begin with.....

I recall a thread here that sets a benchmark for the throttle body size and the corresponding whp target. I think the 62mm is good up to 200 whp but check the thread. Your engine is pretty much stock so I would stick with the 62mm not unless you plan to do more upgrades.

I ran the stock TB on my car. IMO no sense in upgrading.

what ^^ said. stock TB is sufficient and probably one of the last things you need to worry about.

Yeah, I've got a 72mm on my car that does that. I need to shoot it with WD40 every few weeks to keep it moving smooth.

I had mine bored to Spoon spec for like a hundred bucks locally here. Unless you boosted or have a high hp N/A motor it's not really worth it IMO.

furthermore, the stock TB can flow like over 500whp on a boosted setup, as well as the IM.

RC Engineering can overbore the stock ITR TB to 70mm and they do an EXCELLENT job.

dam i shlda kept mine and got it bored to 70mm
I live in NZ so it wld cost me a bit to send to maxbore.

the B16a3 throttle bodies off a EK civic are the ones the shop bores to 64/66mm maybe i cld get em to bore them to 70mm?

I dun think boring out to 70mm is going to be a possibility because the actual casting of the 16A3 and the ITR are different....

In short, there simply isn't enough material to make it a 70mm taper....as the circumferance itself is smaller.

yes i jst found this out too when i rang them up
so im going to soruce another Type R TB then get it taperd out to 70mm
u guys think it wld be worth getting the butterfly bored also to 64-65mm and taper to 70mm likie max bore or go with the cheaper option of just machining it with a taper and keeping the 62mm like the spoon unit

If you don't anticipate modifying the car more extensively with cams etc.

There's no real benefit in increasing the butterfly diameter at this stage. "Spoon Spec" is just fine.
