My car radio/cd player wires are mangled!
Ok HT I need your help. About 2 years ago my car deck was stolen and I have been cruising around without one for that whole period. I cannot take it anymore. I really can't. I'm going to lose my noodle soon.
SO! I need suggestions on what the eff-word to do. My wires are mangled all to heck. I know this because I tried to put my old car radio back in and nothing worked. Apparently the power wire is not working and the wire from the cigarette lighter was rewired to use?? Who freakin knows.
If I take it to a car audio shop can they fix this or will it be pointless?

You should probably have posted this here:https://honda-tech.com/zeroforum?id=27
But unless wires were broken way back in the harness it should be a fairly easy fix.

FTW when did we get an audio and security forum? Man I don't frequent this place as much as I used to!
And to answer... they are pretty mangled a ways back there and like I said, who knows what actually still works

That site will give you wire colors and what they do.
If your power wires aren't functioning, check fuses under the hood and under the dash.

I assume the oem radio plug was cut off, but as others have asked kind of, how far back, all the way to the main harness, or is there still an inch or two to work with of all 13 or so wires?
Here is a pin out and color code for the oem radio harness..... http://www.installdr.com/Harnesses/HA-Wiring.pdf
Also have you checked both radio fuses, acc., [yellow/red] in the under dash fuse box and constant power, [white w/ yellow or blue tracer] normally in under hood fuse box. You didn't give MM&Y of car.

Ok when I say mangled... cut well behind the harness (as in there is no harness and they are about 6 inches behind the dash). The ends are also stripped it seems but I am assuming that was from a shitty install by the last owner
Model: 1993 Civic Cx(Canadian).
Just checked power wire fuse and it was gone
So whoever installed the last one must have thought the wire was fooked and therefore rerouted the cigarette lighter because I can see it clearly being moved from there to here(where the radio was)
Any more info needed?

Go to the junkyard and get the whole dash cluster harness from the fuse box to the radio. Pay around $25.
Or if there's enough wire left, take it to Circuit City. They'll only charge you $30 for a hardwire, $15 or so for the universal harness, then any aftermarket radio you buy will be a plug in with a smart harness.

Any more info needed?</TD></TR></TABLE> No that is fine, and if you don't think you can do it yourself, do as suspendedHatch suggests, if there is at least one inch of wire to work with a good installer can solder and shrink tube, "hard wire" a harness to it, and as he suggests, and I agree, have them install an oem radio plug, that way you can just use an adapt. harness, that way the next time you change the HU it will be plug and play, or if this is the last HU you are ever going to install in the car, just have them "hard wire" the HUs harness to the oem wires.
