Default Tach Problem At vtec engagement

When My vtec crosses over, My tach starts going crazy! WHY! it is driving my nuts!

The only thing I've done to the car is tapped into a line under the hood (showing 12v acc) for part of my security. could that have really caused this much of a problem?

No I didn't disconnect it from where it was originally, just tapped it.

thanks guys!

check to see if your dizzy connections are ok. mine happened to be loose, and the tach would go all fukked up at around 4k

I have 167k and Yes it happens right at about 4k...ish. That's Why I thought it was happening around vtec.

Besides the plug wires what should I check on my dizzy? and how can I check my ignitor? Sorry for a little stupid question. Don't know much about dizzies.

yeah, if it starts dancing at about 4k its your ignitor.
expensive part, but it takes like 10mins to change out

Not the plug wires, but the multi-wire connectors on the distributor.

So time to make a call to Len? And should My helms give me the run down? I'm in class right now and can't dig through the book.

Also... What causes this most of the times? or does it just die for no reason. And... Are there any other side effects of this going out that I might also notice? Could this be why my idle is ruff and I have been unable to fix it?

P.S.
