vtec not coming on when it should.....
i have a kenji chipped p28 ecu. the vtec crossover is set at 5300, but it doesn't hit vtec until 5800. i don't think its the chip. he sent me 3 chips already and they all do the same thing. why would this be happening? i checked all my wires from my tach today and they all have good connections. its an autometer 5" tach with shiftlight.
would needing a serious valve job cause vtec to come on later?
thanks

hmmmmm.....what would cause the tach to be off? is the tach bad?
then damn, if the tach is off, then i could really be at 5300 when the tach reads 5800? that would mean i'm shifting earlier than i should.
my car idles fine though.

How do you know when its hitting VTEC? The only way to really know is to have a light hooked up to the VTEC signal wire and see when the ecu sends the signal..
Just because you dont feel or hear it right away doesn't mean its not kicking in..

Re: vtec not coming on when it should..... (ABK)
i tried that today. the revlimit should be set at 8500, but i went up to 8800, by accident. i don't even want to try to go any higher. with the redline at 8500, where it should be, i still shift at 8k. i don't want to see how high it will go cause my motor has all stock internals.
