I'll make this quick and to the point.

Engine: D16Z6

When Idle: car will idle fine with no smoke coming from the tailpipe

After idling for a bit (ie. at a stop light), then taking off under normal acceleration: James Bond-type smoke screen comes out from the tail pipe.

Normal driving: no smoke, looks like a normal car

Compression #s: 205, 204, 201, 203

Color: Blueish-white smoke

So my question is, what could be causing it to burn oil?

Is it overfilled?

 

have you check or change the oil?? what color?

 

PCV Valve clogged. Replace $2 dollars total.

Not overfilled. It was actually between the two dots on level ground so I filled it until it was right under the top dot.

Oil was changed 18 miles ago along with the filter. The color of the oil id clear light brown. The color of the smoke is blueish-white.

So you are actually burning oil right? I'd say bad rings?

 

I'm going with bad rings.

 

This happened to my friends car, his brother is a honda mechanic and he did two things to his car, first was he told him to change the EGR valve, then it was still doing it a lil bit so then he made him use thicker motor oil, it stopped now. So you might be burning oil somewhere.

 

Does it smoke when you start the car in the morning? Might not be so bad as rings, probably just valve seals. Your car will only smoke when you peel off. However, if its rings as well you will see it when your reving to high rpms

 

My eclipse had the SAME EXACT PROBLEM - its your ring bud. Thicker oil will help - like the guy said, or buy no smoke treatment (SUPER THICK)

Could be a valve seal too though.

To all others.. we'll try running thicker oil. Right now, it's using 5W-30 Honda oil.

true, seeing as his compression seems consistant. Rebuild time?

I've got bad valve seals on my car, it doesnt throw up a james bond type smoke screen. Plus, it smokes at idle, not so much when you get on it.

Go get a leak down test and see if your rings are bad.

 

i haev the same problem when i stop at red light or stop sign.

Could it be a damage head gasket?

 

Could be a headgasket but with head gaskets you will usually notice either a loss of coolant, milky looking oil, or the car overheating while sitting or city driving.

 

I second the leakdown testing.

same here. that will help you find the problem. if its not rings its possibly your valve seals
