Default Grinding Reverse Gear

I have a little problem with my transmission on my '88 CRX, most of the time when I shift into reverse the gear grinds for some reason. I have the clutch fully depressed but it still grinds most of the time. I have found, however, that if I shift into 1st gear before I shift into reverse it won't grind. Does anyone know what could be causing this?

Thanks in advance

Reverse doesnt have a syncro on it, so it will always grind if the trans is spinning at all, just get in the habbit of shifting into 1st or 4th then reverse every time, everybody i know does

Yeah I just go third reverse or first reverse. It turns into habit eventually.

funny little fact: In the EF manual (yes I still have mine) it says that the reverse WILL grind due to no syncros (as said above). It says to shift into first and then into reverse (also stated above). I just found it interesting that the manual says it .

Just allow the transmission to stop spinning. Then it wont grind, only problem is that you dont necessarily get the reverse into gear. Then do what manual says, from first to reverse.

I still have my manual as well and one of the other interesting things it says is that you shouldn't run less than 91 octane. This was an si(canadian) manual. It might even be the same as the dx/cx manual. It's funny because of all the arguments about how the d engines were designed for less octane and run bettter on it etc. etc.

Mine always grinds even when coming to a full stop. If I forget and put in into 1st it grinds a lot, and its loud; but if I put it into 1st first, it just grinds a little, not even noticeable really but it still grinds.

its hard to put it into 1st while still moving because its spinning to fast for 1st to catch up

1st deffinatly has syncros, and if you go drive a brand new 05-06 5spd you can drop into 1st at almost whatever speed you want, its our old worn out trans that just dont like doing it above like 10-15mph
