Default 1982 civic, good beater?

Hey guys, i have recently seen a 1982 Civic manual 4 spd for sale.

It appears to have 158k on the clock and the body is not in the best shape, seems to have some carb problems and a really loud squeaking speedo cable.

I have been looking for something with really good gas mileage and i believe if i rebuilt the carb i might be able to get pretty good MPG. The car is 175bucks and once it warms up it runs really good, except every once in awhile it will bog and you have to rev it to make it come out of the bog.

So my question here is do you guys think it's worth it?

Also i have really good mechanical skills so i'd hope to keep this thing running for awhile, just as long as it doesn't fall apart.

If the body is rusted, ya it's a good beater. If it's fixable, fix it! And keep her, she's a classic!

Your very right 'Davens', I'm used to mustangs, which also have a **** ton of vacuum lines. I'm more worried about the carb though, as i'm not familiar with Honda carbs.

it's pretty easy to retrofit an aftermarket carb...I'm running a Weber downdraft instead of the stock carb.
It actually gives more power AND better fuel economy than stock in most situations. Its also much simpler to work on and even get parts for.

So before you spend $250 rebuilding the stock one, check out some of the aftermarket options.
