I shift at about 5500 in my accords as well.two years ago i hade a hyundai tiburon v6 with the 6spd trans. And I took it to the dragstrip every friday night for test and tune.
I quicky learned that over revving any gear would really hurt my times.at first my times were like 17s even(because i had never drag raced before)And after a few weeks of racing I got them down to 15.70.The biggest improvement after learning not to spinn of the line was shifting from third to fourth gear kinda earlyish in that car at like 4900 or so..I think you should go to some test &tune nights at your local dragstrip and learn your car.

Don't think people will laugh at you for taking an accord you'll see guys there running thier work trucks sometimes with tools in the back.

I put it in "D4" (or D3 if I'm feeling particulary "Rebel") and forget about it
In truth, the racing I do is road racing - against myself.

you want to shift at a point above the hp peak so that when you go into the next gear you are in the meat of the powerband.

On my 1998 accord V6 WOT shifts are right at redline on the tach. Can't complain about the 7.3 sec 0-60 times or 15.5 quarter mile.

what about 7th gen 4 bangers? i usually shift at redline (6500) from 1-2 and 2-3 (even tho im in an auto, i use the "sport" shift thing) and last night doing a drag w/ my friend's 94 bmw 7 series, i beat him thru first but he pulled a car in 2nd on me.

Honestly in an auto you should just stick in D4 and put the petal to the floor. That's faster than any of your faux shifting will ever be.

Also, I agree with the shifting above the hp peak thing. Just because you don't make more power after 5500 rpm does NOT mean you should shift there. You also have to think about how much power you will be making in the next gear after the shift.

I will assume you are talking about legal racing.

When I autoxed the Accord it was generally at redline, unless I would reach redline in a turn thats when I short shifted. I've bounced off the rev limiter on courses with long straights where you almost had to use third or didn't if you wanted to risk it.

This guy obviously drives around in race mode all day long. It's not safe or smart but weve all gone through that stage. And fortunatl most of us survive without killing or selves or someone else.
I think he should go to a track and learn how to drive.I thought I was fast until I did.I learned so much in just a few months of drag racing.
Not every gear is the same sometimes if you shift a little early you'll actually go faster...LIke in the 6spd tiburon I used to have.

It was a trade off.I had to shift from thrid to fourth earlier then what even felt right.Because third would top out and bounce offf of the rev limiter and would kill my trap speed. But if I shifted into fourth I'd get a better time and a better trap....The tiburon trap speed was still pretty slow though about 80mph at a 15.80 or so.
but anyway tiburon=crap don't buy one anybody.

look, you all race so i dont see why it matters if i do. i dont drive around in "race mode" so dont go assuming **** like that. im a safe driver who does some races on the weekends with guys from school. i live in a **** *** town where there is nothing to do exept movies. there is a track about 2 hours away from
here, i havent been there.

All depends on your motor .. if you have an H22 .. you want to shift around 6800rpms .. long enough to stretch the VTEC pull, but not hit the rev limiter ..
