Default quick! short shifter install help!

i have a 91 civic DX hatch, i lifted it up with a friend and we took out the centre console, and unbolted the bolt holding the original shifter... we are stumped from here as I don't know how to remove the original shifter.. it won't slide under and we've tried excessive force in pushing it down.. am i missing anything?

Really? What kind of shifter is it?

I've owned 5 different shifters and they all had the same threads as the stocker.

It's a Solo short shifter, the end of the shifter has these little round indents instead of screw threading so I'm guessing I need a shift **** with alan keys or something.
