Default check engine light on

i have a 1991 honda accord lx and i was driving down the freeway and all of a sudden the "s" light was blinking and then a couple of minutes later, my check engine light came on. im guessing that it is my VSS becuase my spedometer does not work. i just want o make sure that it might be it or i can just get the codes from it and see what it is. any input would be nice.

Heres a link. There is also a sticky thread at the top of the civic forum that has this info and all the codes listed. Get your codes and post them.

Did you check the connector terminals for corrosion?

ok this is really stupid, i thought i changed the cable but i think i changed something else. it was down by my wheel on my trasmission, and it only had one bolt holding it on, but when i looked on the internet to see what a VSS looked like, and it looked nothing like the thing that i just replaced. i want to know the location of this thing so i can replace it this time. thanks

i heard that there is a pin in the VSS, and if it breaks it will stop the signal from the speed sensor to the ECU, wow this stuff gets really confusing. o well its my baby

It's on the top rear of the trans. Look below the throttle body.
