Check ENGINE!
It turns on because the ECU sensed something that is bad for emissions (typically)
Use this procedure to get the code out, then look up in the chart to see what it means. Then come back.

That worked for me. Unhook the battery to reset the system as well.

That button is for the Maint Required Light, not the CEL/MIL.

Located in the fuse box in the engine compartment there is a 7.5 amp radio fuse that is also an ecu back up fuse. Unplug this fuse for 1 minute and viola the check engine light is gone. If the light comes back on than problems are present. Sometimes cars throw what is called a false code and this may be it. After removing the radiop fuse you will need to reprogram your radio stations.
