and I cannot get it to work!
In the package it came with a plug to the unit, and just wires extending off of that to be spliced. Well I spliced them up into my old decks connector, which didn't work.
I gave up, bought a standard car to whatever, whatever to the unit connecting wires.
Now using the new wires I don't have a ground to set up, and also don't have a wire to deal with the remote. Now I would assume the ground would be okay, the wires would take care of that, and I can live without my remote, but unfortunately the unit still did not work.
The only thing I could of done wrong (that I know of) is not install it with say the battery disconnected.
Any help? DEH-470 into a 98 civic, thanks!

I will assume it's a DEH-P470MP as it is the only 470 I can find....
http://www.pioneerelectronics....l.pdf
And your car is a 98 Civic so this is the wiring for it.....
http://www.installdr.com/Harnesses/HA-Wiring.pdf
and this is the install for it....
http://www.installdr.com/Insta...3.pdf read this it's important, you may need other parts.
and you should be using an adapt. harness, [Metra 70-1720]
[url=http://www.metraonline.com/product_listing.php]
http://www.metraonline.com/product_listing.php[/url]
Type in 70-1720 in Enter Part Number box then scroll down to "Turbo Wire"
or the [Scosche HA02B]
http://www.scosche.com/scosche...HA02B
Both have a ground wire the 12V acc. and constant power, power ant. trigger lead, [if needed] an illumination lead, [if needed] and all 8 speaker wires, yes you need the ground
94
PS have you checked both fuses, fuse 47-7.5A hot at all times, in under hood fuse box and fuse 28-10A hot in acc. or run, in under dash fuse box?
If it is a "high power" HU, you may have to move the Pioneers constant power, [yellow] directly to the batt. pos. (+) if the fuse under the plug is bigger the 7.5A, [do not replace the Civics 7.5A with a bigger fuse if it's blown, or any oem fuse for that matter].

Thanks for the information, maybe I'll find some help in there...
I'm just wondering why this isn't plug and play. I had a JVC deck in there before, it had no "extra" ground coming from the wire harness. Simply the main, 10? wire plug, and the extra black plug.
I purchased adapter harnesses from Circuit City, it all connects, just no powering up.
I would just hate to have to buy a harness like the ones you recommended, when I have a perfectly good, brand new one that I would imagine should work perfectly.

What I meant is the harness that comes with the cd-player, its the plug for the head unit, and then wires come out to splice.
That has a ground.
When I went ahead and purchased the wire harnesses, there is a black wire on that. I'm assuming therefore that the ground was incorporated into that some how. I mean, isn't that how the original radio, and then my JVC cd player were grounded?

I haven't checked either of the fuses, both were working fine with the previous cd player, but I will try that. Hell, for that matter it could be the fuse on the cd-player, I'll check that as well.
What do you mean by a high power hu? It's 200Wx4, with a 7.5A fuse if thats what is meant.

http://www.pioneerelectronics....l.pdf and you have it connected to a 7.5A circuit, you will need to disconnect the Pioneers constant power, [yellow] from the adapt. harness, remove or cap off the adapt. harnesses yellow and connect the Pioneers yellow to the batt., run a fused 10ga power wire from the batt. to behind the HU and connect the yellow to it, [just like you would run power to an off board amp] otherwise at the least you will not get the best sound/output from the Pioneer, [not enough current] or you will, [if lucky] judt keep blowing the 7.5A oem fuse, [did I mention not to replace it with a bigger one] worse case is you damage the oem car harness by burning out the oem constant power power wire, [that was only meant for memory]

installing that radio is as simple as matching the wires color to color from your old harness. If it still doesnt turn on check the fuse on the back of the radio right next to the harness then check the fuses in the fuse box. If they are all good and it still doesnt turn on then you probably have a dead radio.
BTW FCM, doesnt a 98 civic use a 70-1721 harness? I know 97 is 70-1720, but I could have sworn a I have done some 98s before and used the new honda plug.
