Constant high idle--Help me figure out what part(s) went bad??
When cold start, car shoots up to 1500 rpm, gradually reaches 2000rpm and finally idles at 1600rpm in about 5 mins. When the car is moving and I push the clutch in, it idles @ 2000rpm, it drops back to 1600rpm if it comes to a complete stop. Cleand IACV, no leaks, all bolts are tight. This problem is not prem, workaround to this problem is to shut the engine off after it warms up ( always 5 mins), and restart. Then car idles fine @ 800-1000rpm. Appreciate for any inputs/thoughts.
car is 2000 honda civic si with I/E.

one thing i don't understand is why would shut off, then restart when the engine is warm fix this problem. Would it hurt the starter if I start the car twice within 5 mins??

It won't hurt the starter, those are meant to 'start' all day long, I would also try cleaning the IACV as well that is the Idle Air Control Valve, can also be cleaned with brake cleaner, just clean the little mesh on it and put it back on.

there are nuuuuuuuuumerous threads on this one. Try 'keyword' "idle" in search archived...this should help
My problem was my fast idle air control valve needed adjusting, right under and kind of behind the tb...thank God I have a cool Honda specialist around here, he adjusted it for me no charge and it ran perfect the rest of the summer last year. He did however suggest I purchase a new one since he didn't fix the problem for good, only temporary. I guess they are around 200 bux brand new

My car doesn't have a FITV. BTW, when I put my finger over the 10 o'clock hole in the TB ( the car is warmed & idle @ 1600rpm), the car dies. Does that mean the IACV is bad/good/vacuum leak somewhere?
