Default 06 R6 not living up to the hype...

http://forums.13x.com/showthre...ber=1

One thing we have confirmed……THIS BIKE DOES NOT REV TO 17.5K!! It says up to 18K on the tach before the rev limiter kicks in, but the tach signal on the dyno says 16.2K. Sorry…..nice marketing campaign, but not real. Maybe with a kit ECU….but not stock……and with a kit ECU it will show 19.5K…

A couple of other odd things that we have noticed so far:

1.)If you remove the kick stand bracket the shift lever pivot goes with it…..that means rear sets for EVERYBODY.

2.)You have to remove the shift linkage to take the oil filter off….

3.)The voltage regulator is mounted on the front of the radiator…..not crash friendly.

4.)The stock bodywork is made up of about 15 different pieces…..

5.)The oil pan is shaped like W.

6.)The tail section is TINY. I have no idea how you will be able to do numbers on these bikes.

7.)The bike has a lambda sensor stock.

8.)The generator cover is really thin….just like the old kit stuff.

Overall, its a killer bike....an absolute screamer and the chassis is really cool. Very much like a TZ....but it is extremely lacking in mid range power.

Dyno graphs are on the page. Im getting verclempt, discuss amongst yourselves.

I saw a thread about this before our moto show and I asked the yammy rep what his responce was.

He told me it was false and it revs and makes power to 17.5 K.

Thumbsdown for the rep or for the tests? I hope Yammy has some deep pockets to buy off the mag rags this year.

I would say the reps.

I could care less about the bike reving to 17.5 as I don't track yet but they should atleast be honest and tell us the truth without us finding out for ourselfs.

Eh, its pretty much standard for the sport bikes to have overrev built into them so I'm not that surprised its not making power all the way out to redline. Either way it makes more power than the 05 and its almost certain the new chassis will prove to be faster on track. No way Yamaha is not going to win the Supersport title this year.

Looks like an awsome bike to me. I know their going to be some flaws but not everything is perfect.

How do u push start that bike if your battery's dead? If the throttle is drive-by-wire then the twistgrip is probably directly connected to a potentiometer and that sends a signal to the ECU that sends a signal to a servo that actuates the throttleplate. Non of that would happen if your battery's dead no? I ask cuz dead batteries are a common issue on bikes. I just had to replace mine last week.

once you pop the clutch and the motor turns you will start to generat power....so when you turn the throttle it will feed it gas

im no expert but thats just my .02 cents

Just fyi....the current R6 doesn't rev to 15.5k.

Just because this one makes 3hp less than claimed, and doesn't rev to 17k, and weighs 6 pounds more dry than claimed, the world is not going to end. It's still going to be a light, quick, nimble track-oriented sportbike, as it has been. Go and ride a 10 year old 600. We've come a long way.

Personally, the only reason I can think of to choose one supersport 600 over any other is cost and color. In that order.

You know what.. I've been staring at the dyno runs and if you line up the red lines of the '06 w/the other bikes, which is in all actuality, is the usuable rev limit that's available to the rider.. you get this.

Blue - '06 R6
Red - '05 R6
Gray - '06 R6 matched rev limit against '05

Blue - '06 R6
Red - '05 GSXR600
Gray - '06 R6 matched rev limit against '05 Suzuki

I figure that during a race, both bikes are gonna be kept up in the upper regions of their rev range so we should compare those. Maybe I'm wrong.. I unno.

What's the big deal? I think most experienced pro's and journalists already knew that the tach was optimistic at best. Anyways.. 16.2K is nothing to be ashamed of.

Exactly. All motorcycle gauges are optomistic. And like I already said, the old R6 only revved to 14.5 actual rpm.

I went to see them in persone and I must say I now don't care if they only rev to 16.5k rpm. These bikes just look soooo good. I now have the bike fever again, I can't wait for the summer.

The big deal is that Yamaha used the 17K tach as a focal point of their marketing of the bike. Had it just been drawn at 17.5K and it wasnt a focus of the marketing campaign or released in pre-production press reports Id have a different opinion. If you want to brag about something, you had better back it up, thats the big deal to me.

You think if Honda decided to make pianos, electric guitars and amps that they would advertise that their volume goes to 11? If they did advertise something as petty as that, you can bet they would go to 11. They wouldnt go to 10.2.

I dont buy Yamahas so I dont have to worry about what else they may be lying about. They got caught with their pants down. If I was to buy one, Id be worried about else they BSed the consumer about. The redline was clearly a marketing point and they clearly lied about it. I think it says alot about the company.

I dunno but my Prelude rev's past the drawn red line and I think that's misleading because if you race your car but never use it up to the actual rev limit, then the car would last longer/have less problems.. warranty related problems. But I don't hate Honda for it.

the whole redline thing is pretty ghey. yamaha obviously knew about it, hell how could they not, but tried to use it to sell more bikes.
but i don't really care about the redline. it's just a number, i would have still bought one even if it redlined at 7k if the engine produced good numbers and was responsive.
it's still a very good bike, handles good, very nimble, and fast!! the seat height is kind of high so short people might have trouble riding one. i'm about 5'9 and i have to tip toe a bit which make is difficult to manuver backing up while i'm sitting on it.
already did the first oil change and taking off the shifter link is kind of annoying but not that difficult. all in all, i'm really happy with the bike.
