Default Vibration when braking?

1992 Accord.

When braking firm but not slamming on the brakes and going between 30-40mph I can feel vibration in the steering wheel.

What is the probable cause for this?

I suspect brakes but wanted to see what others say.

Thanks,
Scott

When was the last time you serviced the brakes? It could be your rotors/drums etc. or since you say it only happens at 30-40 mph it could be an out of balance tire/wheel compounded by a worn shock or strut.

Can you tell if the vibration is coming from a specific side fron or back?

Generally speaking:
Vibration felt in steering wheel: Front Suspension items (issues)
Vibration felt in seat: Rear suspension issues.

For Example: Front
Applying brakes: Brake Rotors out-of-parallel (Warped) One -or- both
W/Out Applying brakes: Broken Tire Belt (causes a side/side weeble), Out of Balance Tire (s). Bent Rim.

For Example: Rear
Applying brakes: Brake Rotor/Drum out-of-round (causes a surging effect as the brake momentarily grabs, then releases)
W/Out Applying brakes: Broken Tire Belt (causes a side/side weeble), Out of Balance Tire (s). Bent Rim.

rotors are the first thing I would look at. Those things are a PITA since they are pressed on...........

What? An Animal rights group "PITA" is involved with Honda Brake Rotors?
That explains why it's such a "Pain in the Drain", and it's often advised you don't wear furs when performing brake jobs. It's all become very clear....

I would also check the front suspension and tie rods for play, my 5g has some bad bushings on the LCA and the same thing happens to me.

brakes have 53 kmiles.

shocks have 253 kmiles.

I'm guessing its brakes, + possible shocks + possible warped rotors

I'll post results after I look at it

Thanks for the help.

do not waste your time with anything else,, machine the frt rotors if thick enough, replace them if too thin

I had the same problem (kinda). Mine would shake a little bit when I braked from like 30 mph. I figured it was from the accident that I got into (tried to take a 90 degree turn at 80+ mph), it wasn't. All I did was get my tires balanced and then it was all good...try it!

Actually, If it were my shop, I would have told you it's Rotors and Brake Pads.
The Rotors because they are the source of the vibration, the pads because they've either gouged the rotors, or they've worn to the point of needing replacing.

It was what I expected.
