'87 crx engine swap
im new here and i got a question. Ok, me and a friend are lookin at a 87 honda crx to swap an engine and put a turbo on it and we were wondering if the engine B-18 will fit in the 87 crx's.
I suggest the B16 or B20. HASport's Bseries bolt -in kit makes a clean install and it'll be fast as hell!! And theres no way a turbo will fit with a B series motor. I have a B20 in my '87 hatch and theres only about 5 in. between my header and my radiator. Good Luck

I am walleys friend. Now I have been researching into this. And I have a couple of questions that maybe you guys can help my friend and I answer. First of all, since the B16 engine will fit, with the mounts will it be a complicated process, what will I all need to do the swap? Second of all, since we can't fit the turbo what kinda times will the engine provide us? If you swap a B16 engine in an 87 CRX Si will you be looking at 13.5 or under, because thats what I am setting my goal at now. Last question, which engine is better, a B16A or a B20?
I recommend the HASport kit. Its a clean kit and it makes the bolt in process a lot easier. All you really need is custom axles, I have '88 integra spindles, hubs and CV's with 90-93 teg axles. A HASport shift linkage and Zdyne ECU. Thats all i can think of right now i hope thats it. when i had the B16 in my hatch the best i could get out of it was a 15.2. That sounds bad but im a horrible driver and traction was a bitch. that was on crappy street tires. With a better driver its a lot faster than that i truly believe. When i put on my B20 block completely stock internals with ITR mani, I/H/E,ignition and FPR my best was 13.6. I think with an LSD and big slicks itll break 12's no problem. traction is a big problem. I recommend B20. the differences i noticed with the B20 and B16 were like night and day. the B20's torque is unbelievable in that light car. Oh yeah i have an '87 Si h/b. And with your car bein lighter than a h/b the results should be better. Hope that helps.

Thanks for your input LOSROCKET. What is a cable tranny? and where did you get one? Also did this car require alot of parts that are difficult to find and also how much money did you drop in your car to do the B20? Thanks

HOLY ****!!!!!!! that is what i can call a ROCKET, very VERY VERY nice job,
But one think though, How the wiring is done???' since the 87 crx are carburated model, the wiring will be kind of a pain nope ???
everything can be done though!!
see ya
I had an 87 CRX Si that had a ZC motor swapped in it, and it fit with pleanty of room for a turbo and an top mount intercooler. I've seen it done in a 1st gen. The ZC is an easy swap and the Greddy Turbo kit that fits the 92-95 Civic EX is the kit that bolts right up. The intercooler that was used was the top mount from a Saab 900 Turbo Intercooled.
the hf (1.3) and dx (1.5) models are carb'd and the si is 1.5 fuel injection. The zc swap or d16a1 swap is more simple and requires less mounts (hasport b16a mounts arent exactly cheap). Go to this site and message board for 3rd gen help, some dudes on there know their stuff. http://www.3rdgencivic.com

The intake is a AEM cold-air and the application i have is for a 86-89 integra. The cable tranny i have came with the complete swap that i bought. It was motor, tranny, ecu and linkage. Then i had to get the axles and all that fun stuff. Nothing for this swap is hard to find because its a B16a1 swap and all applicable suspension mods are from an 86-89 integra. As far as my costs for the swap well at first i just had the B16 swap(included the HASport mounts) and with all necessary parts(belts, hoses, etc.), labor, intake, exhaust, master cylinder(mine was bad) the cost was a little under $5 grand. then about a year later i did the B20 block and that was $1900. I have a good amount of money into the car but its treated me well and ive had B20 for about 9 months now. Hope that helps. good luck!!
All i have for suspension right now is Tokico HP's front and rear with '88 integra rear disks and Ground Control coilovers. I'd like to get get 22 or 27mm torsions and 11" front brakes for that extra stopping power. Also i have a Trust/Grex front strut bar and Cusco rear bar.
The swap was done by Superior Racing Development ,a local shop in Tempe. My swap was done really clean and its ran great since dec. of 2000. They do the best work ive seen in Az. besides myself theyre the only people i let touch my car.
