Is it possible to swap a b18c1 in an 87 crx?
My friend just bought the car for 200 and was wondering what he could do to it, I know in the 88+ it will fit much easier but what kind of work is required to get it done in the 87 model year?
u can make it fit there is a kit made by hassport that places the b series motor in a third gen civic chasis. If u look in the search function there was a crvtec i believ in a third gen hatch pretty nasty car i would say it weighs about as much as a hf on a deit
Yes it will fit.... seen someone on the board with a crvtec engine in a 3rd gen civic hatchback. I've also seen one or two 87 crx's with a B16 swap performed by local guys..
Downside:
-3rd gen's don't have independent suspension in the rear
-small aftermarket for 3rd gen
-weak chassis (rollcage manditory)
Upside:
-Super-lightweight car
-Ultimate sleeper
What you would need for a B-serie transplant (what I can think of):
Complete front suspension from EX civic or B-serie (VTEC) equiped Honda's or at least use their steering knuckles (+rotors+calipers)
Personally I would stick to a b16a1 swap. engines are easy to find and huge aftermarket available. Engine can easily be prepped to 200hp. Also lighter than B18's..less chronical understeer..
B16a1 engine
B-serie axles
Y1, Y2, S1 tranny
PR3 /PW0 + wiring or P30 ECU + OBD1 wiring
92+ civic radiator
If you wish to live longer than 4 hours after the swap:
-brake upgrade
-shock upgrade
my 2 cents
Supplements are welcome..
