1988 - 1991 CRX Quick Alternator Removal Guide
This will work with a D series or B series equiped CRX
1. Losen the wheel nuts on the front driver side wheel
2. Jack up the driver side of the car but if posible jack up the car from the front cross member (more space to work with)
3.Removed driver side wheel
4.Losen the bolt that holds the lower portion of the alternator inplace( do not remove completely yet)
5.Remove the tention bolt that holds the uper portion of the alternator inplace( now the alternator should be held only by the lower bolt)
6.Now you can remove the lower alternator bolt and rest the alternator on the cross member that is attached to the fire wall(make sure it can stay still on its own you dont want it to move around)
7.Completely remove the lower alternator mount which held the lower portion of the alternator inplace( In most casses it is held in place by 2 or 3 bolts)
8.Completely remove the uper alternator mount which held the tention bolt in place(this should also be held in place by 2 or 3 bolts)
9.Steps 1 and 2 can be done after step 8 its up to you and what ever you feel confertable with.
10.Now the hard part ( the driver side axcel should be lowerd enough to remove the alternator from under the driver side) this may take a while.
11.There should be a large enough space between the axcel and the crossmember that is attached to the firewall ( the same place where you rested the alternator after it was removed) the alternator will have to be moved around quite a bit but it will come out it is frustrating but I have done it several times in the past when my CRX had a D series and after it got a B series.
12.I found it easyer to face the alternator pulley away from my self when removing it.
13.To reinstall repeate the prosses backwards.
14. I have heard stories of people removing the brake master cylinder and even the intake manifold to remove the alternator. Its not nessesary to do all that it just becomes more work later and gives one a greater chance of messing up.

Couple points....
You can accomplish this without taking the tire off, just turn the wheels to the left and remove the splash guard.
Also, the upper alternator bracket does not need to be removed, just the lower.

I took off my intake and took it out that side under the throttle body

That is what I was going to say
It's been a bit since I changed mine but if I remember right I did not remove either bracket, I removed my oil filter and even though it took some fenagleing I got it out pretty quickly.

This is definately the way to go...anyone who tells you that removing the master cylinder is easier is a nut.
It works very well with a D-series but I haven't tried it with my B-series yet...it looks like the int shaft and axle might get in the way.

I've changed alternators with the car jacked, wheel on. I loosened everything when the car was not jacked. The alternator was free when I jacked it, took it out and put the new one in. Took me roughly 40 minutes to do everything, my first time.
All this would have been good to know last year. I had to remove my master cylinder in order to get the Alternator off. I tried every possible angle and every entry/exit access point except..the splash guard. Oh well, good to know.
I got mine out without the wheel off and not even tire off the ground. Jack up the drivers side just a bit and drop the Alt out past the axel to the ground. Took me an hour to figure it out. ten minutes after I was done. I think I did remove the bottom bracket.

You dont have to completely uninstall the MC to gain enough room for the alternator. All you have to do is remove the MC from the booster but DO NOT remove the brake lines.
Carefully push the MC to the side, the lines will flex enough while still attached to the MC to give you enough room to remove the alternator through the top.

You should add "Don't forget to plug it back up". My dad forgot to do that and about 1/2 an hour into my commute to work my car just died. I realized my dad's mistake and called AAA for a boost. My dad thought it was pretty funny.
Sequyah is absolutely right, I've taken several out and the absolute fastest way is to take off hte splash guard, it slips right out, even works if you have a B18 swap in your car
And I thought I was the only one to do it that way.
