Default VTEC problem in LS/VTEC 90 CRX

I just built the engine and fired it up today. The wiring is correct (checked every wire 2-3 times) After it fires off it runs like crap unless you rev it up a little bit. After about 20 seconds it trips the CEL with a code 21 (VTEC Solenoid Valve) after the CEL it makes an intermitent metallic clack (fairly loud and inconsistent) unless I disconnect the psi sw and solenoid. The car runs great otherwise just need to get this figured out.

I pulled the solenoid and the screens are clean.....

Any ideas??

Chipped PR3 ECU, 90 Teg LS Bottom, PR3 Head.

two things i'd check.
a) try a known good vtec solenoid
b) get an oil pressure gauge and see if you're making enough pressure for vtec to work.

Figured the problem out tonight. There was a small strand of wire connecting the VTEC solenoid and the #4 injector causing all my problems!!! It was injecting mass amounts of fuel into the #4 cyl so I thought it might have been an injector till I looked at the wiring schematic. Looked at the plug and thanks to a bright *** light I found the wire in the connector.

The wire was from the previous owner and there cheap attempt to make it work by stuffing a bare wire into the hole on the connector. When I pulled the wire out a few of the strands broke off in the connector and stayed there connecting the 2 pins.

Thanks for trying to help out, I appreciate it.
