What kinda manual tranny fluid?

Default What kinda manual tranny fluid?

98 hatch, stock manual tranny. What kind of fluid do i use? I've heard regular 5w30 and I've also heard gear oil. Suggestions?

Honda MTF, DO NOT USE GEAR OIL unless you want to replace the trans soon

go to honda and ask for manual tranny fluid, when you say 5w30 are you referring to engine oil? cause you can't use that in your tranny

you can use it but its better to use Honda MTF

Yeah engine oil, i've heard from many people that regular 5w30 engine oil is what's used in honda trannys. I'm not planning on using gear oil, that didnt seem right to begin with.

I desperatly need to do the axles tonite... could i use 5w30 temporarily untill the Honda parts department is open on monday?

you can use 5w30 but i recommend using the Honda MTF. It was made for your HOnda trans so might as well use the proper stuff. and you will be fine

awesome thanks.. i hate doin it half assed, but its an emergency, so ill just change the oil next time i have time thanks for the info guys

and do a search first. Theres a billion of these What oil to use. Search is your friend.

axles are done and my cuz happened to have some honda mtf anyway so its all good! thanks for all the input
