Default Daughter's Car Stolen 1-17-06

My daughter and her friend had this guy over who is known to be a thief; didn't realize he could be this low. I know it's him. My daughter took her keys out of her purse and put them on coffee table. I woke up at 4 am that morning and her car was gone. The big problem is dont have VIN number and she thinks the title was left in the car. We reported it, but can't list it as stolen without VIN number. Insurance company, Progressive, had the VIN input wrong. I have the VIN from Progressive, but it's not right. This is a dark blue, 2 door, 5 speed Acura Integra. Paint has light metallic. Damage to the driver's side rear quarter panel. Paint on the roof is faded. I know that each digit in the VIN is unique to each vehicle. There are websites that help with figuring out where the vehicle. If you think you can help, my email is sillybird1@***.net and I'll email you the VIN. Any help would be appreciated!

ok first a few problems:
1. u never leave ur title in the car
2. always have VIN properly documented
3. What about registration of DMV. there should be a record of this vehicle and its VIN.
4. why would ur daughter invite a known thief into ur house. You are just asking for trouble and looks like u found it.

sorry for the lecture but i have no sympathy for irresponsibility.

So you're telling me that when you got insurance on it, they had the VIN# wrong? What about when you registered it? Where's the registration? What about when you purchased it, where is the bill of sale? The title is just one of several pieces of paper that have the VIN# on it...and its shocking that you actually got insurance without the proper VIN#, because when they put the car up on the system, it registers the car under the exact trim and body style it is, year model and everything, you cant just get generic insurance information...which kinda leads me to believe that you didnt have insurance on it, or this car was fishy when you owned it.

Check the other forms that would have the VIN# on them...you have to have a registration reciept on record...or your advelorum tax paper (it also has it on there)...and dont tell me its wrong on those because it CANNOT be wrong on those, the government doesnt screw up vin#'s when it comes to how much you pay in taxes on the car every year.

The last 6 digits of the VIN do not contain anything but serial number information so those digits can be left off entirely and you'd still know what make, model, year and trim a Honda is. However, digit 9 is a check digit which can help GREATLY narrow down the possibilities if you need to "back into" the actual VIN using the information you know. It's purpose is, of course, to validate the entire sequence of digits that make up the VIN number.

With that being said, the story sounds shady as hell!

Thanks.

I hate to sound cold, but do you think posting a NON-technical thread on honda-tech.com with these so called "dicks" is the best place to complain, or have ANY help in recovering your car?
