ctr cams / itr cams confusion..
well ive recently been interested in upgrading my cams in my 95 GSR.. i know that the ctr cams are really good and the 00-01 itr cams are the same thing, correct?
i've been told 2 things. A)the cams are great for mid range power and have an awesome powerband, but i'll need to upgrade the IM. and B) If i dont upgrade my valvetrain i wont feel the cams at all, becz they dont make a difference till 8k. and i dont change the valvetrain i'll still have my 8,200k redline so its not worth it.. which is the truest statement..

you can install itr/ctr cams in your stock gsr and still notice slight gains. You'll be safe if you dont rev past 8k rpm. From what I understand, the 98+ ITR cams are the same exact thing as the CTR cams. Upgrading the valve train just assures you from not overreving and doing damage to your head. As for the gains, don't expect a night and day difference, even if your using the stock gsr intake manifold or even if you convert to a single stage manifold, you'll only notice the difference in the high end. Hope that helps....
I've been running a ctr intake cam and gsr exhaust cam on my 94 gsr w/ stock valve train for the past 4 years...no problems what so ever.

thanks alot, that def helped clear it up!
so do you think its worth it? becz i can only seem to find a ctr intake cam from hmotorsonline and i think it was $239. Should i spend that $200 else where on something i could more benefit from, and also is that a good price?

if you search in the classifieds, you might be able to find a set of ctr or itr cams for $250-350... I originally paid $200 for my ctr intake cam from one of my buddies.

This is incorrect, the 00-01 ITR cams are identical to CTR cams. The 97-99 have a less aggressive intake cam but the exhaust cams are the same.

if i did this would i need to change to itr valves?
what about the springs / retainers?
i heard that if i just get the itr intake side springs, i can use my gsr intake springs on my exhaust side, and just reuse the gsr retainers, is this false?
