Default ITB's + mugen cai = ...?

just curious on people's opinion

i am currently using a mugen CAI and i was considering purchasing some

EFI(electronic fuel injection) custom made ITB(individual throttle body)

but at the same time have a custom made intake manifold to connect the ITB's to the arm that connects to the mugen CAI

i was thinking that one, since it is EFI it can be tuned for daily driving, and when on track i would simply remove the filter in the CAI and i would have ITB's that suck in colder air from the fender.

just wondering what you guys think of this set up? would there be insufficent air since the space inside the intake manifold would be to small, for the ITB's to work productively? and also would there still be a significant difference in throttle response
with this setup?

i was considering 50mm ID throttle body. currently stock internals but planning on the toda b setup in the near future.

thx in advance!

there is a box for the jenvey setup ... i belive it's on jhpusa.com that actually fits on to your itb's so that you can utilize a coventional intake , however i had itb's and my car for a while and after they were tuned .... the car ran awesome ... i simply purchased itb filters off ebay and the car made great power and was very streetable ... !!!

i don't think that it will make enough of a difference to worry about , obviously you want to filter the itb's but as prev. stated there are ways to do that without having to worry about your cai ... also your itb';s are going to increase your intake charge (cfm) more than you can imagine .... i would leave them uncovered (exept for the small filters ) imo!

Not meaning to hi-jack the thread, but Hype R 555, what kind of filters did you buy? Foam ones, paper or were they the wire ones like some people run on their turblows?

I've heard nothing but great reviews about the ITG filters

Kind of hard to see in that picture, but there are itb's under that. I think the biggest problem would be in allowing the intake mani to flow more then the ITB's combined (at max). You would have to make the opening huge along with a huge filter I would think.

Then again, I am new to this also, so i could be totaly wrong

Craig, could you feasably, and I don't know chit about ITB's either but judging by that pic, could you "charge" that chamber with some sort of freon to drastically reduce intake temps? Just a thought.

Also, I was thinking the other day that you could make a scoop under the bottom of the car behind/below the engine that would pick up cold air pass it up the back of the engine. Then it could exit out the back of the hood (you would have to do spacers to lift the back of the hood an inch or so). And yes the scoop on the bottom would have to go around the header to avoid heat absorption.

This still doesn't answer the question of filtering, but atleast you've got some cool air.

I think enclosing the ITB's in something would totally go against its purpose. Like Craig said the intake would have to be huge and also a very non restrictive filter.

That is how its done. Cept they have a mass air flow sensor on the intake mani, but it does start with a big filter, then breaks up into individual runners then into the itbs.

Yes you could do something like that. Say make the chamber double walled and fill the space between with some kind of liquid coolant. Or you could even draw the air in over a set of vents with liquid coolant in them, kind of like a reverse intercooler.

The next step is to take that chamber and put a charge pipe on it like thouse turblow hayabusa guys do

Or use one of those FMIC sprayers that shoot the NO2 or CO2 and have it shoot directly on the chamber....

How much boost will that box hold?
Nah, nevermind...

do eet!

I think Tony the Tiger's Plennum is a good design and might even be large enough, but I'd like to see a much larger intake pipe (maybe 3-4 inchs) on it, possibly running to a very large filter. NSX Mugen Airbox anyone?
