Skunk2 short shifter hitting exhaust HELP!
Hi All,
A big hello from Australia!
And yes I have searched
I just installed my Skunk2 shifter dual bend after I heard all these nice reviews about it. Now that I have finished the job the shift linkage is actually sitting slightly on top of the exhaust.
So everytime I shift gears it scrapes and everytime I rev the motor it vibrates
Its giving me the *****. Is this install error or is this just how it is???
How can I fix it?
NB. This is on a stock size exhaust on an EK4.

Had the same problem too with my Skunk2, What I did was just replace the exhaust hanger bushing near the cat with a custom rubber piece. I spread the holes out alittle more, about an inch. This allows the clearance needed, but also dosen't place too much pressure on the exhaust. If you go to big, you'll create an air leak and loss of power.
It now shifts smooth as hot knife in butter. Cost $0 since I found a rubber piece free. Just make sure the rubber piece is flexible like the factory piece, that way when the exhaust moves alittle from when the engine moves during acceleration, it will flex and not cause an air leak.
I've had this DIY now for about 5 months, not one problem.
Other people say remove the headshield, but if its hitting, that isn't going to create enough clearance.

any other suggestions??
what are the risks in taking off the hanger all together?
maybe i could get longer hangers? or would this not line up with the header?

well u shouldnt take off the mid hanger its gonna make the muffler torque and then slowly start exposing bare metal and theres a big chance that its gonna start rusting...best bet would b to loosen the exhaust bolts and try to posistion the exhaust so that u have a little bit more space from the short shift.

Bend the hangers or have a muffler shop do it so it doesn't it.
I have also heard of people taking a hammer to the top of the exhaust piping at that spot so it doesn't rub. Not what I would recommend though.

its actually rubbing on the welded bracket that sits on top of the piping.
So I dont think smacking it with a hammer will do anything because the welded bracket is very thick ...
which way should i bend the hangers????
