Default DX motor in EX

I had a 93 EX with a bad motor but I can get a 95 DX motor for very low price. My question is can I swap the DX motor to my EX? If so, do I need to change ecu, tranny, and axles? Can someone point me out?THX

Only the ECU.

It will swap just fine. D series axles are d series axles. Tranny is a direct fit as well. Im not sure about the ecu though, since EX motors are vtec and DX's are not.

I'd save up another hundred dollars and buy an EX motor though.

What went bad on your EX? If the head is salvageable, buy the DX block and drop the head on it (use the EX head bolts). It would be better than losing vtec and give you almost the same amount of power as the 1.6 block. Do a search for "mini-me".

This would work to

But since youre in CA, it wont pass smog, you'll have to do the swap. Thats IF you plan on keeping the other motor in the car for a while.

thx for the reply guys. Well, the reason that i am thinking getting DX motor is that I can get a real good running USDM 40K miles motor with decent price. I mean i know I can get a 40 k miles JDM D16z6 but who knows if is 40k miles and whether the owner abuse it or not? So if I am correct, DX and EX have same tranny and axles? What about the motor mount? Can I used my 93 EX motor mounts for this 95 DX motor?

u can use the EX ecu to run the DX engine, but the check engine light will be on for vtec. Should run fine. If your EX motor had an aluminum drivers side motor mount you might need the DX one. only thing i can think of.

As far as I know, the mount pattern is the same for all d-series from 92-00.
Also, my friend tried running a cx motor with an ex computer. It idled where vtec was supposed to kick in

What nobody has mentioned is your EX transmission has shorter gears than the DX version. It'll still bolt right up to the block though, and you'll accellerate better than a stock DX.

Not sure about the 92-95, but 96-00 DX engines had a different IACV - may have to do a little creative wiring. If the 92-95 isn't that way, it should drop right in with a DX ECU.

So here is teh list of things that I need to make it done right:
DX motor
motor mounts either DX or EX
Tranny either one works
DX ECU to avoid CEL on
wiring same?
this that all I need? Let me know if I need more stuff.

Also, if the swap goes well, I may have some parts for sale. i just want to see if anyone interest at anything such as EX ECU, tranny, one bad motor with all the parts attach to it and some other stuff maybe. I will post parts for sale if this swap go well.THX
