horsepower enhancer??
i was thinking about trying one of those horsepower enhancers that connect to the IAT sensor but i wanted some opinions first. do they work? is it worth the 40$ that they list for on ebay? are they harmful to ur car?
They're a $.50 resistor that you put in that makes your car thing you're getting more, cooler air when you aren't. Don't waste your money. If you want a cheap way to mess with air/fuel, get an SAFC or VAFC
they're basically just resistors that trick the ecu that colder air is entering through the intake; resulting in an increase of fuel injected into the motor. Don't quote me on my words but i believe that's what it does. i ordered a similar model called the "power king" through eBay which was a little module that enabled the user to control the resistance when connected to the IAT sensor. To be honest, i actually noticed a difference; an increase torque and acceleration. i'm not sure what the side effects are but i took mine out a couple of years back just because. To answer you question if it's worth $40; i'd say don't bother buying it. I still have mine if you want to buy it me for cheap just to try it out.

Well, no, - but there is a limit on how much you can add. If you add too much, you'll definately lose power. Adding a tad bit will make more power because the fuel makes the power in an engine. When using nitrous - the fuel is the power maker, not the nitrous.
The IAT is a thermistor - meaning it is a variable resistor that informs the ecu of the temperature of the incoming air.
The only problem I see of our IAT sensor is that its located on the far right side of the intake manifold. If you look at most GM vehicles, its very close to the TB.
If you add a resistor, you won't make much power at all. Period. My brother put one on his '04 mazda 6(don't ask why) - but he said it felt much better.
If you want to buy a resistor - go to radio shack, and buy a resistor. There are many different resistors - you just have to read the colors on them. Ask the eBay seller how many ohms the resistor is - then go buy your own for a few pennys.

Considering just about every car out there is already conservatively rich in open loop operation, yeah, it will take away power.
If it's taking away fuel, then it could add a bit of power.
Either way it's retarded.

is this true? can someone confirm this works, 'cause that sounds like a real cheap upgrade, maybe just what we need.

wtf?
wtf?
this thread kinda got off hand but im interested in knowing more about the resistor/enhancer. i have never heared about this and would like to give it a shot. what exactly is it that u have to do and were or how do u install it?
it is lying to the ecu so that it thinks its 30 degrees outside. the problem is you no longer have ANY adjustment of fuel or timing based on air temperature. that can hurt performance and economy especially if you live in an area where temperature can vary widely in a day.
