question about 5th gen prelude tranny
my lude is a 99 base and im trying to change the tranny fluid. i know theres a bolt underneath the car on the tranny to drain it, but wheres the bolt on top to add the fluid in? and how many quarts does it take to change it, which brand would you recommend and how often should you change the fluid? i know on the automatic cars there is a tranny dipstick, how do we measure the level of the fluid? i know i got alot of questions im about to hitt 60,000 miles on the lude and im doing a great deal of work on it myself so i dont get a$$ raped in prices at the local honda dealership. the only thing ill let them do is the valve adjustments.
The top bolt is directly parallel with the bottom drain bolt, right above it, identical in shape and size, you can't miss it. I change my fluid every 15,000 to 20,000 miles (I shift hard all the time). And get 3 quarts of GM Synchromesh from Chevy/GM dealer.. Fill up your tranny until it pours out the top. Put the bolt back in, you're done. Mine took about 2.35 quarts to be precise.

why use the GM brand tranny fluid? is there an advatage in using it? like thicker weight, will it wear down the syncros because is a different brand then they use at honda? i know i have to get a long neck funnel to add it in there, thanks for the input , im going to invest in a helms manuel soon, i think i need it asap !
use honda MTF, IMO though... I have used BG syrcomesh, wasn't as happy as with the honda fluid.. There is a magnet in the tranny, but go ahead and put a 14x1.50 magnetic drain plug in the hole....
i couldnt purchase the magnetic drain plus form super trak or pep boys etc. the only ones i know of are the spoon ones, and im not paying that much $$ for bolts.
