b18c1 in my ek
alright guys i have a few questions, i can get my hands on a b18c1 i think 97-98ish for dirt cheap, i want to throw it in my ek (98 cdn si). heres the few problems, my buddy got the car (rear accident) so we got to take the motor out ourselves, this is a first for me! so what are some things i can leave behind that i dont need for my swap, the mounts and axles are no good to me, can i chop rad hoses and ****? im going to leave the wire harness in tact, what about the ECU, can i use it for my car? and i dont need the PS and AC cuz it wont fit in my car right? last question, i dont have papers for the motor and im out to lunch when putting it in my ride, will some shops install motors without papers? and do you think i can install it myself, my ride is obd2v1, i dont know what the b18 is yet, so its not plug and play right, any help for a noob guys?
thanks
thanks
you can't use the harness from the gsr but you can use the axles from the gsr. you also would need 99-00 driver side engine mount and the rear L bracket

I don't see why they wouldn't. You have money, right? You won't need to drop ps/ac unless you want to. And you will need that ECU

I have a GSR in my EK. I have no A/C, depending on what you want to do with the car, if you want to save weight then leave the A/C off, also you can leave the PS off and save weight. It all just depends on what you want to do with it. The axels will work, I have a GSR tranny in it too. I kept the PS in mine cause its a daily driver. But for sure get someone to wire it all up for you if you don't really know what your doing. Enjoy the new engine, they are fun in EK's.

your in luck i just finish doing that swap to my ek hatch
heres whats you need, all the mounts are the same the only bracket that defintly changes is the rear t-bracket and the timing beltside bracket might be the same not sure i put 99-00 civic si on mine to be sure, the tranny bracket (top one) is exactly the same i had bad luck on this one cuz i went to the dealership and got a si one and found out they were identical when it was already install, for wiring harness just use 99-00 civic si for simplicity everything hooks up its an easy swap
funny how all the mounts are all the same

The Canadian Si is the U.S.'es Ex so you would just use the harness you already have. Your car is already wired for vtec so that eliminates one headache.
You'll need (from the gsr):
axles
ecu
engine/tranny (of course)
99-00 Si (US Si i believe) rear tranny mount
gsr front tranny mount
P54 ac bracket (should you want to keep ac)
99-00 Si driver side engine mount bracket ( the one that bolts to the engine by the timing belt )
shift linkage
My best recommendation for you would be to visit this forum's FAQ page at the top and to visit Hybrid honda ( http://tech.hybridgarage.com/t....html ). Hybrid honda had a more comprehensive link but for some reason its gone. I saved the page but I can't put it up here. If you need prices you should visit ( http://www.slhonda.com ) they have pretty cheap prices.

The tranny bracket is not the same. The rubber mounts are but in no way is the tranny bracket the same. The gsr has a triangular bolt pattern while the D series engines have a 'L' shaped pattern. Also, the D series bracket is about 3mm too long, meaning you can connect the bracket to the tranny with 2 of 3 bolts but it's too long to bolt it up to the frame.

Ya you are right, your Canadian Si does not have vtech, cordless phones were never an option on that model of Civic.
But you do have VTEC on your Si. They all came stock with that, it's just that on a d16 vtec is not noticeable.

I know being a noob should have no bearing on how well you read english but this is twice today...I'm sorry but why quote me and talk about not paying for a swap? If it was in reference to me talking about slhonda.com that was for prices for things he might need for the swap, not to do the swap.
Also, i forgot to throw out http://www.acuraoemparts.com/delray/jsp/home.jsp
for all the acura stuff you might need to pick up (pumps, hoses, thermo, etc.)

do the swap yourself. Swapping a motor is cake. Just make sure you have everything needed before you start. I wouldnt cut anything, dont be lazy pull the motor out the right way. all the extra **** you dont need just sell.. Do some research

first of all i quoted you for the things you need for the swap and thats it
second of all i said to do the swap himself because thats in my own opinion it had no reference to what you were talking about!!
it had nothing to do with the your quote. if your quote didnt say anything about doing the swap himself why do you think that i would say something like that.. wow just cause i havent posted as much as you makes me a noob?
maybe i should have started it off different for you
