just bought a ebay ITR front strut bar and it's hollow
well, that sucks, but it still seems pretty strong and I'm guessing at worst, it should perform the same if not better than a stock gsr one right? since a gsr one is hollow as well.

hmmm you mean they're not supposed to be hollow? I thought hollow was stronger than solid, depending on material of course. . .

hollow is never going to be stonger than solid, unless you're comparing 2 different materials. A solid aluminum bar is always going to be stronger than a hollow aluminum bar of the same size. Cross sectional area is key.

I thought hollow was better at allowing flex, where solid would be more likely to permenantly disfigure or shear off? The OEM strut tower bar on the Si seems to be hollow.

yes strut bars are hollow to cut down on weight and cost. If weight and cost wasnt a factor, all strut bars would be solid. They designed the hollow bars to be strong enough to withstand the forces on them without breaking.

the strut bar is pretty stiff, but i can yank on it and it does flex slightly when i pull it. But regardless, I definately noticed my ride getting stiffer. Enough that I might even think about removing it since it makes my car ride stiff now. Kind of amazed how much difference even a cheap strut bar can make.

how does a strut bar make your car's ride stiffer. It prevents shocker tower play and chassis twisting, it doesnt not affect stiffness in shock dampening
that was the dumbest things ive heard

on turns you crack nuts, and the way it goes over bumps. When you go over bumps, you don't think your shock towers shift slightly?
also, regarding the previous post about saving money by making the bars hollow, i highly doubt that. I think honda made the gsr bar hollow on purpose, so its not too stiff and the ITR semi solid just to stiffen it slightly but not too much. If you look at the price of a rear sway bar from honda, its only like $150 and a front strut bar is roughly the same price. There's a reason its hollow for gsr and semi hollow for ITR, but neither of them solid.

You can feel these things right away. The first time I put a rear tower bar in I could tell a difference just backing the car out of the garage and onto the pavement. I know it sounds crazy but I guess I'm in tune with my cars. That was in my 99 Si.
