Default Problem: low rpm; 94 honda accord-pleaseeeeeeee help

Dear folks:
I have a 94 Honda accord ex (2.2l, VTEC, auto).
My car has low rpm problem: at idle it is around 200-300 rpm and shifts gears at around 2500 rpm. Trust me this is the maximum rpm it can reach before it shift gears, so no power in my car.
My speedometer is blown and hence engine check light comes after driving around 15-20min. But this light has no effect, I mean the problem is from the very beginning I start my car.
Wondering if you genius people could answer what could be wrong and help me out. I really want my car to run powerfully.

Thanks in advance for your advices and suggestions.

couple of things first off you should read the code ,, you might have more than 1 code stored in the ecu..if you do post it here . secondly .. disconnect the frt exh pipe at manifold and try it that way you could have a plugged exh system,,

It's best to have the codes stored in the ECU
Here's a link to help you get the codes[URL]

the speedo not working can cause the car to run in 'default' mode with basic parameters. Such as the shift problem and low idle speed
If you want to have a "powerful" car you'll have to keep it maintained properly

I got diagnostics on my car, all that is wrong is the speedo sensor. My exhaust has some leak too. But even the mechanic couldn't tell me why the rpm is low. I am wondering if its because of the sensor then, it should do once the engine light is on, but even before that the rpm stays low. One more thing is that, the after engine check light pops, there is no change is engine's performance......SHOULD I ALTER MY IDLE SETTING........please tell me, what could be the reason.......could it be the time to do tuneup......but no firing problems.......so kindly comment.....

before you mess with adjusting anything, take care of the known sensors and exhaust leak

Hello, I'm replying to your post

'[QUOTE=vinodchalla]Dear folks:.......

You said "this light has no effect". I think u have misunderstanding about the "check engine light" warning. It's obvious to me that 1st, your engine isn't running normally and 2nd, the computer detects the problem. So don't wait any longer u have to diagnose it. Try taking your car to a store like Schucks and u can rent a code reader ( I 4got what it's called) or have its employee run the test. Around here, in Seattle, it costs 25$. If Schucks doesn't have that service, try other similar place. I had it done at Action Auto Parts, but I think it has braches in only Washington.

When u get the code, u can consult the repair manual what that code means.
