i need to make the whole so i can DIP and ZIF. how do i make these wholes? drill? what size?

 

Get a solder gun and desoldering wire from Radio Shack or a similar store. I heated the solder from the back side while touching the desolder wire from the other side to get it out, just don't leave the solder gun there too long or you'll burn the board up

 

the fact that you're asking this means you should leave it to someone that knows how to work on electronic circuit boards.

yes, i just took solder gun.. on low setting, heated up from back, and stuck the solder tool on front.. its like a 'vacume' and sucks the hot solder out

Just get a 3/16th bit in there are git er done, hillbilly.

There are better ways to learn than frying your ecu. If i were you I would read up before you just take a soldering iron and put it to your ecu because "someone on the internet" said it would work.

To someone that has no experince or previous knowledge in how long it takes for a soldering gun to kill a board Or what kind of heat the soldering gun is capable of producing I bet they will leave the soldering gun on the board for too long and fry the board.

 

True, but if they don't understand when i say too long, red light should be going off in their head that they shouldn't be doing it. Also, i don' think anyone should be using an ECU or circuit board as their first soldering experiance even if they have a 25+ year master electrcian next too them. But i see where you're coming from

i know how to heat sink. i got a ecu to learn on. Please just help and dont tell me to just have somone else do it. I not so joe. DIY

 

ok, well you have a few choices.

from cheapest to most expensive:

1.) solder wick:


2.) solder sucker


3.) desoldering iron



Some of the pads are kind of close, be careful not to have solder make any unwanted contacts!

and what I use regularly.


All though solder wick does work good with some practice. IMO your ECU is not a good place to start learning to solder.

 

i really didnt know what soldering gun or little tool was & my mom actually had one the whole time . .

wow what kind of work do you do? That's pretty much the best money can buy.

 

will one of those hot cold things work well? what kind of metal do i use? to jump rp18?

 

You could use the extra part of a resistor lead if you wanted. Or pretty much any kind of solid wire as long as it isn't too small or too big.

Solder 60/40 rosin core solder
60% tin 40% lead.

I wouldn't get one of the cold heat things from radio shack.
