Default Can I just remove my compressor entirely??

My compressor is going. I have been told this a few times now. Eventually, it's going to seize up and my belt is going to wear away and snap. I want to remove my compressor entirely and utilize a shorter belt. I don't care if I have A/C or not. I just don't have the money for a new compressor right now. How long would the new belt be? Have people done this in the past? Is the belt I need going to end up being some weird length that no one has? Or is it a common sized belt that you can get easily? Any ideas?

Answer a few, or all of us will be just guessing
1) Year?
2) Model?
3) Compressor Noisy all the time?
4) Compressor Noisy only when A/C turned on?

if the a'/c belt also runs the alternator , remove the belt, measure from end to end pulleys from alt and crank .. add a few extra inches for going over the pulley and adjustment slack,, go to a shop and get a belt ..

...and go back, and back and back until you get the right length

Or you can cut to the quick and get a belt for a Non A/C DX. To do this, you'll have to take the A/c Compressor right off the engine (it's clutch/pulley sits right in the way).*

If, however, you have no noise when the A/C is off; most likely the pulley bearing is ok. You can drive it like that until you can afford the $$$ for the new compressor, and avoid the additional aggravation of an A/C system that's been opened. Just disconnect the electrical harness for the compressor clutch so that it won't turn on.*

Just went to an autopart store and ask for the belt without a/c for year and model of your car. that's what i do.

just call the parts store and tell them you have the 'DX' model with no A/C and they will have the belt listing.
