Default Over filled

I just did an oil change on my civic and i over filled it by accident. The dipstick shows 1 inch higher then where it's supposed to be. I think i poured 4.3L...Is it bad for my engine? Should i drain some out or leave it and do the next one properly? It's a new engine too.

drain a little out, that isnt going to murder your engine by why mess around, its hard on the seals.

Drain it. Drain it all into a clean container, then pour the right amount in, if your 1 inch higher it's roughly 1 liter of oil.

Trust me, it's not good for the engine, if you don't beleive me, I work at Mr. Lube and I've done over 10 000 oil changes (ya, that's right) and my co worker blew up a audi engine (well, killed the turbos and cats) by giving it 3 liters too much oil.

yeah, two bad things can happen. it'll burn really bad now, that's for sure. but that's not that bad, except it can hurt the cat. but it can also blow out seals. another problem, which i don't think happens as much with modern oil, is that it will get all foamed up because it's actually surrounding the crankshaft and stuff. froth is bad.

lol ^^^

i accidently did that with my first car, an 84 prelude. before it happened it didnt leak but a little oil. after i overfilled it it blew out the crankshaft seal on the timing belt side and i leaked about a quart every 400 miles. who knows what else happened to it but i under fill my current car by about 1/4 a quart just to be sure. overfilling in my opinion is just as bad as having too little oil.

George Dubya is also a certified president, but he's still a complete DUMBASS. Its easier to be a certified honda tech, so do the math.

Draining 1qt of oil takes less time than most people do to polish off a beer. Shaving with a well-sharpened butcher knife while driving over potholes can be done safely too, but that doesn't mean anyone will ever want to try.

Exactly.

Why leave it?

Drain it out and make it the proper level.

They have a level indicator there for a reason.

Really? So I guess that the marks on the dipstick are pointless then? You sir, are one shitty mechanic to be giving advise like that.

Just do what ludesrv stated in his post and you'll be fine.
