Set your Multimeter to read 12vdc and test between the battery terminals
first with the engine off.
It should read between 12.2 and 12.5 volts (Battery steady state voltage)
Second with Engine running:
It should read between 13.8 and 14.2 volts (Alternator Output voltage)

Go to the dealership and get a 'brush pak' for the alternator, swing the alt up as far as it will go; disconnect the battery, remove the insulator from the alt where the battery cable connects, then the 8mm nuts on the back of the alt. the shroud will come off and you will see 2 phillips head screws holding the brush pak on.
