HELP with 2004 Coupe
First of all I guess I'm the Noob of the day! Tried a search but the search server appears to be down...
This maybe a long winded story - but I would appreciate some help as I am unable to find any at the local dealership, or the owners manual.
I have (actually the GF's car) a 2004 EX Coupe with an I4 auto (less than 17K miles). Unfortunatly for us someone threw a softball sized rock through the drivers door window. The rock didn't find its way into the car until the second attempt however, as the first attempt resulted in a fair sized dent in the upper door panel. The OEM security system did not trigger (she didn't hear it anyways), as I guess there is no glass breakage sensors installed direct from the factory. I wasn't in town the night that it happened, but appently she couldn't open the drivers door. Maybe it was just broken glass jamming the door mechanism - we don't really know.
The next day a new window was installed at the local glass shop. The door is now working as per normal. I have noticed however, that the door locking features no longer work normally. When locking the doors with the remote transmitter, pushing the button ONCE would lock the doors, pushing the SECOND time would beep the horn - indicating the doors were locked and the security system was set. The horn no longer sounds however after pressing the button twice. Does the system somehow need to be reset?
Also this morning the car needed a boost to start. The battery appeared to be dead. The car would very slowly turn over for a second or two - but would fail to fire the engine. The normally green "eye" on the battery was black - indicating is was discharged.
I guess my two questions are does the security system need to be reset? Procedure?
Is the dead battery related to a malfunction in the security system? Everything has been normnal for the past number of days. The car wasn't started at all for nearly 36 hours for the first time since the incident. Maybe the system in drawing more current and flattened the battery in this time?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Living in philly at school I have noticed that a lot of people never hear their car alarms going off and let them ring out forever UNTIL the battery dies. Just an idea but maybe the rock went through the window BECAUSE your alarm was ringing for about 12 hours and someone trying to sleep got annoyed by this. I know in a drunken stupper I have considered many times expressing my ill-will towards un-attended alarms. Regardless of what came first the rock or the alarm, the dead battery might be due to the alarm sounding and you/your g/f never hearing it and shutting it off. No idea if this is your case but just an idea. I know something similar happened to my roommate in a 98 jetta that the alarm never turned off and he had to jump his car the next day.
The car was parked next to the Pharmacy where she works for about 2 hours before it was noticed by a customer that her window was broken. It was parked next to the building adjacent to the fire exit, which is maybe 15 feet away from the Pharmacy counter. Brick building, aluminum frame and glass mall style door. All in all the car was maybe only 25 feet away tops from where she was standing - separated only by a pane of glass. SHE is POSITIVE that the alarm never sounded - but there is room for doubt in anything.
This all happened LAST WEEK. The battery went dead TODAY. The alarm resets itself after 2 minutes of sounding. The dead battery is not a result of a sounding alarm. Nor I doubt the rock in the window is a result of the alarm sounding. The '04 Accord alarm only sounds if the hood, trunk, doors are opened - or radio removed.
Not to be rude - but did you even read the post?? I clearly stated we had the window replaced in the car between the time it was broken and the battery went dead. Kinda doubtful the glass shop would put a window in a car with the alarm sounding...

You were not rude. razorskater's reply was merely a superfluous comment, not informative in any way. Though I'm afraid I cannot provide any guidance in the form of past experience with your issue.
Bump for this guy!

apologies, I skimmed the post saw the alarm went off then that yes you did have the window replaced but that you needed to jump the car to get it started later on. I assumed you meant you had to jump it every time after the alarm went off. Since I do not have an alarm and in my personal opinion, do not like them or think they work at stopping crime i had no idea when an accords alarm would go off. I was simply throwing in my 2 cents (which apparently it was worth less than that to you). Had i known your g/f was 25 feet from the car or that it was only 2 hours or that it was during a work day i probably would have just move on past this. but since the time of day, how long the car was unoccupied, location of car relative to nearest person who gave a sh*t was not stated I offered a possibility. With the new info you presented in the second post I have no idea in hell why your battery is dead and best of luck to you
Just ignore the ignorance, sometimes if you do it goes away.
Your right the factory alarm doesn't have any breakage sensors (only some acessory ones do).
With the locks not working I would think the plug was not re-connected when the glass was installed. I would have them re-check it. If that's not the problem something may have been broken inside of the door.
With the battery dying you may have a parasitic draw. Take it to your dealer and they should cover it under warranty. If it's related to the rock it may not be covered.

My apologies also! The whole morning leading up to my post has been more than mind boggling! It pisses me off to no end that someone would do this to a nearly brand new car! They threw the rock the first time and left a good softball sized dent in the door - second time broke the window. The rock then landed on the leather passenger seat, making a scuff in it. We're still pretty pissed about the whole thing - so sorry for my earlier response!
To add a little more to the problem - the door locks DO WORK with the remote transmitter. Typically tho the second time you hit the lock button the horn would sound, and the security system would be armed. The horn doesn't sound anymore - and the light no longer blinks in the instrument cluster indicating the system is armed.
Seems to me that maybe the people who replaced the window f'ked something up inside the door assembly. I can't comment if the system operated properly between having the window broken and the next day when the window was replaced. I was out of town for a couple of days and didn't return until after the new window was installed.
Thanks for the replies thus far - and again my apologies!

Bump bump!!
I unhooked the battery cables for the night to see if the system would reset - nope!
Gotta meet with the autoglass guy who changed the window (within the next hour or so) to inquire to whether he f'ked up anything inside the door. I know what his answer will be tho...
Anyone know of any online Service Manuals for the 2004 Accord? I know there are lots online for other vehicles I own.
Thanks
