does the sensor on the thermostat housing control the fan?

on a 93 del sol S d 15b7 does the coolant temp sensor on the thermostat housing control the engine fan? cause i did a swap and that sensor is no longer there.. so i hard wired my fan for now but i dunno if that was what turned it on.

so what does it do then? the haynes manual doenst really give a purpose for it being there. its not hooked up now and i dont get any code for it. its the one directly on the thermostat housing.

yes...its a radiator fan switch, also called thermoswitch.
