Default 93 lude si timing belt and tensioner problem

replacing timing belts and all others, every time I go back to make sure everything is working properly and turn the crank pulley, the timing belt jumps teeth on the cam pulley. Anyone know how to tighten it correctly? thanks-David

are u turning the crank by hand or by ignition?anyway always do it by hand first counter clockwise ....the belt must be pretty loose to jump..A mistake I did in the past was change the timing belt tensioner and did not make sure the little whole in the rear of the tensioner( that faces the firewall) fitted over a notch on the block, this holds it steady along w/ the spring in front (faces nose of the car)...This can cause the belt to jump, if not done..If you have cams at top tdc and crank at tdc..you are suppose to then be able to rely on the bbelt spring and tbelt spring to do their job. After you tighten the tensioner nut and rotate the crank 3 times clockwise to see if everything lines up and then loosen the adjuster nut and rotate the belt by three teeth, it should tighten even more (then retighten the adjuster nut).If this does not help, sometimes i just pull up with my needle nose pliers on the hook close to the spring hole of the tbelt tensioner to give more tension and also push down on the bbelt tensioner for more tension and then retighten the adjusting nut and still rotate crank cc 3 teeth and loosen the nut and do the push/pull process again and then retighten the nut. The push pull process is a secondary action because the springs should be able to the job...according to the helms book....There are many mechanics that love the push/pull though

got everything in there at TDC , good tension in all belts just to find out that my valves were the reason the belt snapped on me in the first place. Now the engine won't run and I have to take the head out this weekend and get a machinist to to fix'r up. Don't have the time this weekend to mess with it anyway. thatnks though

i think the t-belt was the reason your valves bent. (i am asuming they bent. timing belt snaps, cam gears stop, piston keep going, smack, bent valves
