Default Can you clean a air intake yourself?

I recently purchased a 95 civic si its in beautiful shape, the aftermarket air intake looks real nasty cuz its so dirty, i dont got the money right now to buy a new one can i clean it? like at a car wash? or some other way?

Its just metal or plastic. Clean it like you clean any other part of your car, just dont do anything stupid like put acid on it. Make sure to get a recharger kit for the filter if its K and N.

other than the SS filter from whatever company I don't think ANY filters are metal OR plastic...

Most are either cotton or foam.

MOST have cleaning instructions READILY available on the manufacturers website...

Some are not servicable... and cleaning them would ruin them... even the servicable ones can be ruined by not following the directions EXACTLY...

If you blow dry a wet K&N filter it's all but useless... the gaws shrink and even with the oil it doesn't properly filter the air anymore.

Find out what brand you have and contact that munfacturer about it's recomendations.

im aware of that (metal filter, come on now, im not that much of a newb), I was talking about the tube and cleaning it. Just buy a K and N filter and a recharger kit (youre gonna need to oil the filter after it is PROPERLY cleaned and everything you need is in the kit, including cleaning directions).
