cleaning air intake filter
Hi,
I have a short ram air intake installed on my civic, but I don't know which brand it is. I got the intake from my bro who took it off a civic he recently bought. I don't really know how many miles the filter has been through. I put it on my car last november and probably put around 3-5k miles on it. I wanted to clean the air filter, but how should I clean the filter? Are there products I can buy, or are there household products that I can use to clean the filter.

What kind of filter is it?? If it looks like a K&N, use the cleaner and oil that you can get at your local auto parts. If its stainless steel, soap and water will help clean it up.

Wrong. Some you can't clean some you can. K&N makes some filters you can clean

The filter itself looks like a K&N type (cone shape), I don't know what the material is (some kind of fibrous material), but the filter is not stainless steel. I will check out the stuff at the local shops, but can I use soap and water for the filter, I described above?

If it's a k&n you can buy the cleaning kit for about $10 - comes with soap and oil. If you wash it, it needs the oil on it afterwards to filter properly. Wash from the inside out.
