Hey my friend just picked up a 93 4door dx and it was supposedly all stock well I popped the hood and the engine code is ZC its a sohc also i thought ZC only came in dohc form also the plug wires are on the top of the valve cover Vtec????? i couldnt find the solenoid tho? hmmmmm any info on a sohc obd1 zc motor would be helpful

Yes, ZC's do come in SOHC's. I swapped a SOHC ZC into my 91 hatch once... i dont beleive they are vtec... nice little engine though. Cool find!

 

you can get obd1 sohc vtec engines, similar to d16z6

 

would the vtec solenoid be on the back side behind the dizzy theres a spot for it but theres a cover on it Hmmmmmmmm
I thought the motor was just a jdm version of the Z6

Ok so I think I got it figured out its a jdm A6 right non vtec converted to obd1 hmmmm so would mini meing it be the same as A6 will Z6 head bolt up ect.....

are you sure that the head isnt from another engine??? i have never heard of a vtec zc...

 

I got a jdm sohc vtec zc swapped into my 93 four door dx also (runs outside to see if car is there ). They are out there though.

I am here now and will be happy to answer all of your questions....yes VTEC ZC exists, it's in my car parked outside

I know of multiple threads that not only discuss this, but also discuss the minor differences in the motors, interchangable part #'s, and boosting information.

Let's not forget the carb'd ZC DOHC engine either since we're talking ZC!

Also there was a euro-spec ZC built for Rover (car maker) that's supposed to be torquey, but I've never seen one in person, but they do exist. I cannot recall the block code now though...
