CEL on after straight pipe install
hey guys, i just put on a straight pipe on my 98 civic ex, it made my car sound like *** by the way, but anyway. It runs fine but just today i was doing about 80 on the interstate and the check engine light came on.? Any idea why this could be? How do i check the ecu for the error code or whatever? thanks
Okay, there's really no reason to check your codes because you have now removed the catalytic converter and you are blowing the same junk through both sensors, which makes your ECU very unhappy. My suggestion, either change over to an obd1 set-up where you don't use the second sensor, or have a new cat and o2 sensor bung welded up, then you should be straight, although, it will probably still sound like ***.
btw, under your passenger side dash there is a little plug you can pull out, it's probably stuck in a little rubber holder, just pull it out and take a piece of wire, strip it a little on both ends and stick both ends in the two terminals on the plug, BAM! you just jumped the ECU, turn the ignition on and the cel will flash, count it and then you will know what is wrong.
Hope that helps.
