I have a fully built gsr motor with oversized jdm itr pistons, bc cam gears, and bc specIII cams. i put the motor back together (motor is still out of car) and the exhaust cam doesnt turn as freely as the intake does. everything is at tdc or we think it is. how does one determine if the gears are at tdc? cam caps were tightened at 20 ftlbs and we determined tdc by the mark on the gear(the gear behind the crank pulley) and the oil pump.
also in the helms it says for an LS to line up the holes on cam at tdc and stick a 5mm punch in the cam cap. does this hold true for the gsr? also do the buddy club cams have the holes in them?
TIA

The buddy club cams do not have the hole in them like the stock cams. so you cant put the punch through them to line them up.
I wouldnt worry about it too much, mine did the same thing when i installed new cams/valvetrain, and everthing works fine.

thanks for the advice/encouragement, im just kinda nervous because its taken me so much time and money to get this all done. what did you use for the tdc marks on the gears?
yeah you got it right, just make sure that the cam gears line up and the crank shaft gear lines up with the mark on the block, then your set to put the timing belt on.
Once you get the timing belt on, put the lower cover on, then the crank pulley.
Once you get everything together, there is a mark on the lower cover that should line up with single mark on the crank shaft pulley. If it lines up turn the engine over by hand so that you make sure there is no interference with the valves and the pistons.
Hope that helped.

If you have not set the valve lash yet, there could be a difference between the IN & EX. Other than a possible tolerance difference or assembly lube application.
