Default BIG problem!!

ok so i got my h22a in my 92 civic everything hooked up won't start, got fuel and spark checked both, so we checked compression 20 psi across the board!! wtf, got this from a mutual friend it was running in another eg, im wondering something about cam timing, i didn't mess with it or the timing belt. the arrows on the cam gears i thought have to be in sync but they are not. engine turns over fine doesn't sound like valves hitting(i would think i would beable to hear it). would putting a lil bit of oil in the cylinder help it that much for compression? so i dk what to do help please!! thanks

As far as the timing goes, yes, both "up" on cam gear should point UP at the same time, and the line on the crank pully should match up.

If this is not happening, this is problem 1.

This may be enough to get your compression that low of a number. Might be enough to make valve clearance -none- but you still might not be able to hear it smacking. Before any other damage is done, set the timing!

With problem 1 -why is timing off? Was it running in the friends car until the very last day? Sure?

Oil will help build compression by the fact it is simply filling up space, or maybe use to help free up rings. 1st start with the timing though. The other thing, a valve could be stuck open. Depending on condition of engine, and how long it sat, etc etc.
