Default leak in 96 coupe driving me nuts

ok so in the beginning i thought it could be the antenna. Siliconed that bitch to the car, not leaking there.

Still leaked so i thought it was my tails ... got new tails and siliconed the gaskets up when i put the **** back on the car

still leaks

so my friend helped me take everything apart, and i have mad pics ... the white stuff is baby powder so i could figured out where the water is coming in

Ive been trying to fix this leak for about 2 weeks now

ok so heres what ive found so far for today

its coming in ABOVE the taillight WTF

up and behind in there

then it trickles down the side, onto the top of the airvent lookin thing

and the water comes to rest down here

like i said its NOT the taillight leaking.

My friend went to arizona and i have to feed his cats so i decided ill make use of his garage since its raining hella hard here .... so i took my taillight back off and my silicone job was pretty good, but anyways, the water is coming in ABOVE it like i said earlier, cause all the baby powder up there is soaked ... its not coming through the taillight at all!

Can anyone reccomend a good sealent that i can just spray everywhere and maybe that will cure the leak, cause i still cant figure out where it would be coming from.

PLEASE help a brother out

and if anyone is in the BAY AREA / SACRAMENTO area that knows how to fix this and where its coming in i got everything taken apart ill pay you because im really at a loss to where the waters coming in.

Thank you.

If i cant think of anything else ... is there anything vital underneath the floorboard right there? Cause i might just drill some holes

Try searching for an article by patrickgsr, patrick94gsr. Something like that. He had a very similar problem and spent a few days trying to find a solution. He finally found it and i believe found a pick. I tried searching buy i couldnt find it. Maybe if someone knows his username could help out.

i looked up and checked technical service bulletins... didn't find any related.

get your garden hose w/ hand held sprinkler attached and something similar to a coat rack. hang the garden hose from the coat rack in such a way that it sprays downward similar to a shower. put that over your car, get in your car and watch for the leak.

check window seals and truck seals. while the car still has running water on it, quickly open the hatch and see where the water is running from. remember, not all water will leave the hard water stain. sometimes water wont leave a stain at all.

hope that helps you

i did that already with my friend in the car

does anyone know if theres anything important right under here

http://www.photodump.com/direct/melt/IMGP0237.jpg

cause if not .... im thinking of just drilling a few holes.

Either that or maybe take the headliner off and see if its the rear washer nozzle ... but im thinking that isnt it cause everyone who had their rear washer nozzle leak said that it leaks right behind the seat and not into the trunk

get underneath the car and look if theres anything important. i bet not... probably just the underside of the trunk floor.

it almost seems like the body seam or the hatch seal. it would be pretty wild for the water to run all the way down the c-pillar, so i wouldn't think thats it.

water leaks suck

What exactly do you mean you made the hole bigger for the sunroof drain?

The sunroof has 4 drain tubes. 2 run down the A-pillars and drain out behind the front fenders. The other 2 run down the C-pillars and drain right behind the rear tires. The tubes are connected to the sunroof assembly, run down, and then slip into a black rubber thing which goes into a hole in the metal unibody like a grommet.

I would say remove the headliner (check the rear washer nozzle while you're at it) and remove the tube from the sunroof, and also remove the tube from the black rubber connector at the back, and blow compressed air through it, just to make sure there is nothing backed up. Also make sure it's securely attached into the black rubber connector. Hopefully you have those and the tube isn't just sticking out through the hole in the metal, because if so that's most likely the problem.

*edit* haha dang dude you found all my water leak threads

In case anyone wants to know, I still have the water leak under my dashboard. Yes, after more than a year it still leaks. I just haven't had the time or felt like trying to do the Great Stuff foam thing (the last link listed above). In the meantime I just keep a couple of terry rags under the carpet, and it does a great job of soaking up anything that gets under there. If we happen to have a really rainy couple of weeks, I'll changes those rags every week or 2, and the carpet never gets wet anymore, thank goodness.

Some day I might get around to pulling my fender off and shooting that Great Stuff foam up into the frame rails, but lately my house has been taking up all of my free time.

ok the drain behind the rear wheel, where it goes into that bong looking thing thats plugged into the side of the car, i made the outlet of that part thats on the OUTSIDE bigger, cause my friend said it clogged on his 94 gsr but he didnt have this problem any more

this is the only spot my car leaks at is right back here.

All the sunroof stuff is securely attached.

I got my friends garage till friday or so whenever he gets back from AZ ... and right now my mom has 2 cars but one goes in for service beginning of the year so i dont get 2 cars for much longer.

Im thinking maybe the trunk seal .... i siliconed where it goes on the car tonight and im gonna run a bead around the outside tommorow too

Ill take some more pictures tommorow for you guys i got ANOTHER set of tails im gonna put on and resilicone everything cause i didnt do a very good job and i am not really a big fan of altezzas anyway.

Thanks for hitting up this thread man i really appreciate it!

I cant read everything but have you inspected your weather striping along the inside of the hatch. A very close inspection?

ok so i found a thread on another integra site about it leaking through a body seam or some ****, so i posted there to see whats up, i bumped the thread a year late so we will see

http://www.club-integra.net/fo...t=632

i also talked to my dad and he said drilling holes in the bottom of the trunk is a bad idea cause water can splash up into the car when it rains.

I figured I would post this here too in case it might help anyone else out. Sorry in advance for it being so long. (This is in a '98 Civic EX coupe btw, but so much is so similar between these cars that it MIGHT apply.)

My adventures with a water leak....

Okay.... Eran from CC might be able to explain in more detail how my Honda Tech and he found out where my water leak in my Civic coupe is originating from at least. So maybe this will help you.

I've seen a tiny bit of water in my car before. Nothing really major though. I used fabric cleaner on the spot on the trunk "floor" and it's been fine since. No smell, nothing.

Well, just since moving to WA it's began leaking again. Just since we got it back after it was stolen. So it's only been leaking around a month maybe. And a lot. I opened my trunk to see about half an inch of water pooled on top of the fiberglass (whatever the "carpet" stuff is made out of on top of the cardboard-like covering in the trunk of the EX). I dried the trunk as best as I could, but the water kept collecting over the next few days. We stripped the entire trunk so that nothing woudl get damaged as badly (use a clip remover, found at Autozone or similar stores - it looks like a door handle puller, only longer). Just looking in the trunk and where the water was falling and soaking into the cardboard, it looked like it was dripping from the top middle of the trunk seal. Come to find out... that's probably just where it would condense, and then drip from.

We ran a hose over the car and THOUGHT the leak was coming from two tiny pinch welds right on the outside of the trunk seal. I'll try to remember to go out and take photos to better explain this later, since you have the Civic sister car, and well, some things will at least be similarly built. The water would drip from inside, on the "top" of the trunk right about in the middle along the trunk seal. Checked the seal too, it was fine (inspect yours carefully for cracks and splits though).

Later, my Honda Tech decided to try once more to make sure that's where the leak was coming from. We didn't want to use the epoxy and end up still having a leak (it's kind of like silicone when wet, but dries as an epoxy and would have filled the inside chamber in between the body panels with the leaking seam). So he put my car in his garage at his house, took a small space heater, plugged it in and shut it in the trunk of my car. We went inside and waited for EVERYTHING to dry off.

When the entire car was dry, they took a cup of water and poured some near the top of the trunk, where we thought the leak was. It didn't leak. So they dried it off and poured the water at the top of the window. It leaked. Then they dried everything again and moved between those two spots, from the bottom up.

Found out my leak is actually the rear wind shield seal, right along the driver's side. Not AT ALL where we had thought originally.

So my tech is getting me info on the body shop they use for such problems. I'm lucky, my water leak will probably cost me no more than $200. Some water leaks cost up to $5000 though. I also learnt that 2005 Ridgelines are having water leak problems (in the wheel well I think.. they close it entirely up so that it's quiet in the trunk, but water collects in there... guess it's not as closed as they think... so they have to drill a hole in the bottom to drain it).

Anyway, I hope this might help you some and sorry it's so long winded. I wanted to explain everything we had done though. My tech also said my leak was probably started by an accident in the car's past, and these things pretty much just take time to mature into a noticeable leak.
