Unless you plan to rev above 8500rpm I would say msd is a waste of money..In the high rpm the stock honda ignition starts to break up..and the msd basically eliminates that..I would however get an external coil even if you dont get the box..And the rev limiter on an msd works by cutting the spark..

I personally use mallory ignition and would never use MSD..Just my opinion though

any real reason for that? We've used MSD's on all of the race cars and haven't really had any issues besides them spuratically deciding to burn up after about 4 years. Kinda wondering if Mallory is more durable.

Back when I was into rotarys I had an 1g rx-7 with a 6 port bridgeported 13b /w a 700 carb..And I had 2 msd 7al boxes mounted parallel and they were great..Way better then stock igniton and it idled better and got better mpg,,etc,etc..Then one day out of no where one of them just breaks..Car wouldnt stay running and the tach was real jumpy..So I got rid of both of those and ran 2 mallory 6-al boxes..Still runs good to this day after I sold to..I know the new owner and he has no problems with them,,That's just my personal experience..

in my opinion, get the 6AL. Not only does it give better spark, have an adjustable built in rev limiter, but it also has 2-step(which is the burn out thing you meant). You can bounce a limiter at like 4k, then when you drop the clutch to launch, it will go fully to redline so you get a perfect launch everytime instead of trying to keep your foot steady on the gas.

Are you sure the 6AL has the 2 Step launch control? Do you use the 6AL? I bought one last month and it's specifically why I'm on here right now. I haven't hooked it up yet because my CRX is turbocharged and I'm thinking I should get the 6BTM so that I can control my timing as well as improving combustion. I didn't read anything in the 6AL instruction manual about the launch control - though I heard it through the grapevine that it can do that, I would like to know for sure.

it does but you need an external 2-step box that MSD sells.
