what is anyone's opinion on changing gears without using the clutch?
i figured....but i don't want to know six months from now, i want to know what damage it will do....does it wear out the clutch plates?

This just added to the confusion. WTF are you asking!?

It won't cause a problem if you rev-match it within 100rpm. Otherwise your gears clashing together will be what causes the friction that matches the two speeds.
Only do this if on a beater - something you don't give two ***** about. Yes, it will cause more damage than using your clutch properly. If its just to impress some bitch or friend, chances are the girl won't care, and you'll eventually grind it and embarass yourself in front the girl of the friend. My opinion/experience is that you can always shift faster with more consistency when you use the clutch.

somedays, i usually only use the clutch when i come to a stop, leave a stop, or when i am driving aggressively. otherwise, it's fun to upshift and downshift without it.
If you drive your car properly the clutch is going to last 100-150k miles anyway. Are you just doing this because it is fun? You may damage your synchros or worse and it would be much more of a pain in the *** to replace or rebuild your transmission than to replace your clutch. How tolerant the transmission is to clutchless shifting depends on its design. My Civic Si is all but impossible to shift without the clutch but my 85 RX7 is smooth as butter when I do it. If it sounds like the gears or synchros are clashing then thats a pretty big indication that the transmission isn't tolerant of it.

If you are really good at rev matching then it won't be a problem...thing is that as RPM's increase your response time must also increase. it gets to a point where you really can't match rev's. I used to shift my LS swap like that all the time at low revs...if you mesh up and don't grind gears then it causes no wear...thing is that there are VERY few people that are good enough to shift clutchless without grinding on a regular basis.

i don't ever do this on my honda, but i do on my daily '91 mazda protege beater. forgot to add. oh i'm aware of synchro damages and whatnot, but i rebuild transmissions all the time, i guess you could say, so i'm not too worried about it. i'm pretty good at getting it right in with the rev matching. makes heel/toe'ing on point.

its better for everything if done correctly. like they stated before, for a b series youd have to have it right on the dot when rev matching, or it will be worse than using the clutch. i used to be able to revmatch and drive clutchless when i race and daily driving. but since i broke my ankle no luck no more. haha
