once and for all. OBD1 vs OBD2
ok, i live in a place that DOES have emission requirments. i am converting a 94 Delsol D16z6 over to a 96 integra GSR B18c1. now everytime questions like this come up people are told to search or the answeres that are left are very tough to follow. could someone please take a few moments to clarrify this issue for me. i am lost and can find no answere that makes sense.
when i do the engine swap. since i need to pass emissions, can i also swap the ECU? if i did that would i aso need to replace the del sols wiring harnes to support the OBD2 engine and ECU? cause from what i understand a OBD1 ecu will need a Piggy back , which WILL NOT PASS TESTING. correct? so what route would be easyest? i have the entire integra here so any parts i need are redily available.
thanks ahead of time to any input.

check with your local dmv for the all the requirement for changing motor.
i would think that they (inspect) check your car as a 94 = odb1 not with the motor you swap in the car.
as for wiring your car i would use the gsr harness and your delslo (p28) ecu for now or chipped it to a (p72).

here ya go some info.

thanks for the suggestion. but i am wondering why ? OBD1 is old tech. what are the benifiits of it and how do i get a OBD1 ECU to Work with a OBD2 engine AND STILL PASS EMMISSIONS?????????will the chipping do that?

didn't you read my reply?
you already have the obd1 ecu already.
if you really want to convert it to obd2 then by the obd1-obd2 jumper.
you will need to run another set of wires for the secondary o2, and the knock sensor you have to run it anyway if use the p72 ecu. you don't have to run the knock if you use the p28.

i did read youtr post. with much inthusiasm. but it tells you how to do the conversions. i am needing to know which everyone feels is better, ewhy , and if it will pass emissions ?as for the knowledge your post was amazing. i just need a little nbit more. it seems like everyone is going to OBD1. and i dont understand why if its the previous "design".
It's simple man, you have an OBD1 car, convert your engine to OBD1 and be happy with it.
There is no tuning software available for OBD2a or OBD2b for Honda because they only did the bare minimums to make the cars ODB2 compliant unlike when they released the K series with was followed almost immediately by Kpro tuning software. If you run an PBD2 ECU, you will have no options other than a crappy piggy back setup which won't do much for you at all or doing a small fortune AEM setup.
The car was originally OBD1 so changing the engine to match that will not be hard and it will allow you to use a chipped P28 or the like to actually dial the combo in properly and provide you with a better setup plus since you car was born OBD1, there will be no issues with the conversion with emmisions.
OBD1 emmisions testing is usually either 1 a sniffer and CEL scan or 2 just a CEL scan. Crome, Neptune, Uberdata, any one of them will run your engine as OBD1, no CEL's and no problems with the tune and ability to pass the sniffer.
If you have an OBD2 ECU in the car thoug, it can raise an eyebrow or two as to the way the car will communicate with the scanner.
In otherwords, keep it simple and run the car OBD1 as it was designed, it is a better system for people into performance and my OBD2 SI has been converted back to OBD1 just for tuning ability. I would much rather have it.

from what I have looked up and seen almost all OBD1 cars have less restrictions on them i.e more power and yes like this last person said you have more aftermarket tuning ability with OBD1 than OBD2. good luck
ok that settles it. thank you so much for clearing that up for me. i justr couldnt figure it out for the life of me (yes its cause i am a noob) so now i ask, where is a link that would tell me (or anyone that knows) hows to convert a 96 GSR from OBD2 to OBD1???
Me, I never did it (as far as parts), just got the jumper harness. I have done OBD0 to 1 but never 2 to 1 as far as electronics. Try the search man, there is SOOOO much **** there it should be easy, just remember to use archived for obd2 to 1 GSR conversion.
