Default Help...90 CRX Si...Random CEL and Limp mode???

Every so often I'll be driving around and all of a sudden the CEL will pop on and the car will go into limp mode (rev limit at 3k, lots-o-fuel dumping, 1500rpm idle). The car is stock right now, ecu is chipped, but I've had the stock chip in for the past few months. I tried to check the codes, but it's not pulling anything because the CEL goes off everytime I restart the car. It's really annoying and I can't figure out what is causing it. Anyone have any ideas on what to test? Thanks in advance.

Reproduce the problem a couple of times.

How can you expect anyone to fix a random problem?

That's the problem, I can't reproduce it...it just happens, I can't make it happen. I even went through and tried moving wires/connectors around to see if the limp mode would engage again but nothing. What problems would cause limp mode to come on with that 3k rev limit? This might help me narrow the problem down some. I tried pulling the stock chip out and putting it back in to see if it was loose or something, and I haven't had the check engine light in a day or so, but I wouldn't know for sure if pulling and replacing the chip until after a week or so.

a broken ECU might cause that problem.
My guess is, it's a bad burn on the chip.
