Default Front speakers

I have a blown out front 5.25'' stockdoor speaker. My head unit (stereo) is a 6 year old, high end at the time, JVC still in good shape. I have been surfing the web looking for some new speakers. I have found sets that include tweeters and crossovers and some sets that just include the 5.25'' speakers. Do I need to get a set that includes the crossovers? Does anyone know if the '97 Prelude comes stock with these "crossovers"? If so, where are they located and should I repleace them when replacing the 5.25'' speakers? Should I install new tweeters while I'm at it?

Any info is appreciated.

Thanks,
RiceRkt

The fronts should be 6.5, or atleast you can fit 6.5" speakers up front. I would go with the 6.5" speaker if I were you.

As for the crossover, if it is anything like 4th Gens, it doesn't have a separate crossover.

It is kind of hard to find 6.5's that fit up front. Don't buy over sized 6.5's and make sure they will fit depth wise. As far as the tweeter, no reason to replace it unless you are getting a component set of speakers. In that case it will come with new tweets.

The stock speakers do not have crossovers, except for a very tiny one that is built into the tweeter.

You can fit just about any 6.5" speakers you want, as long as you cut out the stock backing and lift them with spacer rings. Installing car audio can be quite labor-intensive if you decide you want to upgrade much.

Crossovers that come with component speakers will require you to find a mounting place (like under the seat or in the doors) and probably lay some new wiring. If you really want good sound, amp them too. Browse the audio/security forum for lots of wisdom on this stuff.

And welcome to h-t
