Told that my new b20vtec has a bad surging idle beacuse valves dont line up ?
however Total performance racing in cincinnati neglected to mention this when i payed him 5500 and told him a b20 vtec would be cool as long as it runs like a STOCK motor. Now i have 200 miles on it and allready have bad tranny, baD ALTernator , and a b16a computer which i suspect i will have to replace, and what a nice guy to offer to LOOK at the transmission for only 300 dollars . Needless to say saving up 10,000 over 4 years was a big waste of time for me beacuse now i have a crx sitting in my garage that i cant even start. I would trade all this crap for a nice STOCK sohc motor! at least i got to drive to work! Be careful out there!
Who ever did your motor work must have never put it together right. That is the first time I have heard that. One of my buddies built a B20Vtec and he did not have that problem. The problem he ran into later on down the line was that he didnt build up the block and it gave out. He was running the motor on a P28 ecu and a gsr tranny.
What's wrong with the tranny?
The shop should replace the tranny if you paid that much for it and it's already having problems.
Same with the alternator, tell him to replace it too.
If it has a "bad surging idle" it's almost certainly a vacuum leak.
Just take the car back in and tell him to fix things up, it doesn't sound like it's going to take that much work.
Good luck!

it's not your fault for all the bad things the shop installed especially wit only 200 mi. n shitz fallen apart. take it back n have them replace all the bad parts.

that sucks man. I put together my own b20 vtec and it ran like a champ. bring it back and have them fix it. 5500 is kinda steep for a b20 vtec build up(if its stock)

I had this surging idle on my GSR motor. Turned out to be a bad IACV. Replaced it and man it purrs like a kitten. Also check for vaccum leaks around the intake manifold.
I spent a few weeks trying to figure out the cause of the surging. And then voila, bad IACV. Don't give up. Trust me building a motor is not easy, very expensive and FRUSTRATING.
But once it runs like a champ, it's something else.

When you drop that kind of money you should expect a shop to help you trouble shoot the motor. I'd be angry if I were you too. I recently bought a built 2 liter myself, and the shop has been nothing but helpful every time I've wanted information or small bits of tuning. I'd take it up with whoever did your install if I were you.
Plus if it is a B20 built using all stock compenents you got RIPPED for 5500.

thank you all for confirming i got ripped off. When i talked to the guy the other day he changed his story about the valves and said ooh i guess i didnt have one in stock so just bring it back! unfortionatly the alternator he gave me was bad also so i cant drive the 100 miles to get the valve. So i guess im just gonna buy one since ive allready told everyone how much his shop sucks.
